Thanks Philip. Sutton Park is good for bikes but there are some busy roads on the way. Fortunately we have New Hall Country Park, Plantsbrook Nature Reserve and Penns Lake, all with cycle paths, close to here. I can ride quite a distance and hardly see traffic. Incidentally, I am looking forward to my trip to Coventry tomorrow morning. It's the KHVIII open day and they are doing guided tours for Old Coventrians. I can't wait to have a look round some of the scenes of my childhood mischief. Blush

On my way from Torksey to Guildford last Tuesday, I travelled via Coventry to deliver a parcel to a friend. Slightly out of my way, but a chance to take a quick sniff of the atmosphere in my home town. So from M69 in through Walsgrave, Ball Hill, Far Gosford St. Ring Road, Holyhead Rd, petrol and sandwich at Morrisons - delivery Radford. Way out, back to Holyhead Rd, out to Allesley (check Rainbow OK still there and just as picturesque my first pub, company of Grandfather, only got to sit on a bench in the yard - kids not allowed in in those days). On to join A45 at Rye Hill (remember this section before it was finished after the war), drive towards Phoenix (gone), Standard Cinema (gone), Matrix Ballroom (gone), and on down the dual carriageway towards Kenilworth Rd. traffic lights. Just before I got there I experienced one of the highlights of my journey; the central reservation for a few hundred yards or so was a riotous blaze of colour, I couldn`t stop to check of course, but I think they were wild flowers. I`m home now back in Torksey, but that vision is still engraved on my memory. I hope it has the same effect on others who live in or visit Coventry. I somehow felt there was still some heart and interest left in the old city, that all the strange evolutions since my departure had not completely destroyed

Philip, I enjoy your travels Two men were going by train to B'ham from Coventry one was single the other married. The single man went to the ticket office, and asked for a single ticket to B'ham. The married man stepped up to the ticket office, and asked for a ticket for the same journey. "Single?" asked the clerk. "No sir, bloody married".

Tekmelf, Hi, long time ago on the restaurant topic, you mentioned Sammy Moore and the British restaurant. Late one night in the fifties, Coventry Fire Brigade received a phone call, 'urgent come quickly, New inn bridge' receiver goes down. Thought to be some sort of hoax, crew from Foleshill were dispatched, as they approached the Bridge, man flags them down, admits he made the call 'You have to put some air in the 'cut', the fish are dying' After a lot of arm waving and yelling the crew leave the scene, the description of the man fitted Sammy Moore. A very well known character and I believe well liked or tolerated. There was a house stood in its own ground behind the restaurant in Broad Street, belonged to a church, off white panelled building, spent six weeks of strange but hilarious fun in that house, my landlord was the chief salesman for Cumfifolder pushchairs of Exhall, do you remember them?

I well remember the Shuresta factory on Bayton Road, Exhall that made bike stands and Cumfifolda prams and pushchairs.

Nice pictures Pixrobin, good to see you can still get out and about, nice for people like me who haven't seen Gibbet Hill since 83. Thank you, Kaga.
