Hi to all, can someone help us? My partner is looking for any info or photos of the old 'Municipal General Hospital U D' as this is where her sister was born in November 1945. This is what it says on her birth certificate - hope someone can help. Thanks. |

A quick internet search indicates that in 1929 the old 'workhouse hospital' was renamed 'Gulson Road Municipal Hospital' but then maybe all hospitals around this time were 'Municipal' so I can't verify this is what you are looking for. I'm sure others can add more to this. |

Yes it was registered in County Borough of Coventry, that's what is on the form and it has a red 1d stamp on it as well |

Hi
This is a quote from Wikipedia which might be worth a look at...
"Following the Local Government Act of 1929, the public health committee of the Corporation took control of the workhouse hospital, then renamed the Gulson Road Municipal Hospital. The hospital was open to all the sick inhabitants of Coventry, but priority was still given to the sick poor. The old workhouse was absorbed into the hospital in 1937." |
