Just wondering if anyone has any information about the Coventry Photo Engraving Company, Cow Lane? It is possible that my grandfather, Harold Clarke was a manager there around 1911. He had moved to Coventry with his new wife after they were married in Hampstead in 1909. The 1911 census has them living at 13 Paradise Street and his profession is recorded as Photo engraver (Manager). By 1914 they were living at 10 Palmerston Road, where my father was born in March of that year. By 1925 they had moved to London, but obviously maintained a connection with Coventry since my father was living there (possibly also working for the photo engraving company) when he married my mother in 1939. It's only a guess that Harold was working for the Coventry Photo Engraving Company because it seems to be the most likely candidate, Cow Lane being only a short distance from both Paradise St and Palmerston Rd. Any information on the company gratefully received!

There is a picture of Cow Lane, 1936, here, but cannot make out any engraving shop.

The place was part of a block of offices and workshops 35-39. The block was bracketed by the Sunday School and the Bablake Boy pub. This double set of 3 storey warehouses, courtesy of Anne. I get the impression that Bushills would have also done photo engraving. There is a lot of stuff about Bushills at the History Centre but that's as much as I know.

Looking at the cars, I would guess that picture is from the early 60's?
