It makes no sense to me since Jimmy had no connection with the Ricoh stadium. Roll eyes

I think you need a bit of lateral thinking in a situation like this, Dutchman. His connection was with CCFC who played at a different venue in his era but that is gone now. It is rather similar to having his statue at the Ricoh where he only ever visited as an esteemed guest. It is now the home of the club which he loved and did so much for, so it is the only appropriate place to show that commitment. Other clubs have statues of former heroes at new grounds, such as the one for Bob Stokoe at the Stadium of Light. It is part of a club and its fans honouring its legends. As for scattering of ashes, the area at the Ricoh is a dedicated memorial garden where many fans have their remains scattered. When it was created it included some of the soil from Highfield Road as a token gesture to those fans who had had their ashes scattered there. I just believe it shows that JH was committed to the club and this is his final act in showing it. In reality, of course, it makes no difference to anyone where your remains are deposited when you are dead, least of all the deceased.

I am delighted to hear that Phoenix way is to be renamed in honour of Jimmy Hill. Last year I posted this: "I would go along with the suggestion to rename Phoenix Way as Jimmy Hill Way. If it included the road from its junction with the Binley Road right up to J3 of the M6 it would appropriately pass both the old and new grounds too. It would be a fitting tribute to someone who did so much for the club and the city, along the lines of Brian Clough Way which is the road that links Derby and Nottingham." I am so pleased to see that they have done the right thing and honoured him near the old Highfield Road ground. I hope it happens soon and that it can be commemorated by a proper 'opening' in due course.
