Hi Rob,
I'd have thought the first thing is to keep doing what you've done here. Locate the pictures and locations and put them on a map. I've used your camera map many times while trying to work out what picture fits where. Then try to link information to locations too, either by finding a link or by writing something new. Then create walks that start at a place of interest or somewhere easy to find (eg Ford's Hospital or end of a road) and finish a reasonable distance/time later, preferably at something worth visiting (eg Herbert Art Gallery). Once you've got some decent walks ......
Themed walks could be:-
Blitz.
Medieval Coventry.
History of cars/transport.
Textiles.
Religion.
Schools.
Guilds.
Pub trails
Not quite the ultimate solution to a themed walk (!) ...... but .... as part of the Coventry's National Heritage Weekend I am mounting a display on 'The History of Coventry Godiva Harriers and other clubs in the city during the last 140 years'. I have devised a one and a half mile 'Godiva Trail' which takes in part of the Spon End area which played a significant part in the Godiva Harriers development. The trail is detailed in the display and there is a give away leaflet.

For those of you who are interested in Coventry's history, there is a great website called Medieval Coventry, where you can download a walk around the Council House and Cathedral area. The knowledge of Coventry is amazing with dialogue throughout. It certainly taught me things I didn't know about Coventry and I've lived here over 65 years. Give it a try, you can download it to your phone if you do the walk, at every stage you will learn about that part of Coventry, or you can download it to your computer and do the tour from your home. There are plenty of other things of interest on the webpage.

Oh how my dad would have loved this - history for the common man! I can imagine the many many 'oo we had one of those'. Coventry City Council should fund this. Ideally, this is the sort of endeavour that should have a permanent home but so many more people will see it by chance in the market. Is any of the collection for sale and is he accepting donations of Coventry memorabilia?
Again, thanks to Garlands.

No worries Helen
I hope you enjoy your visit there for people like us (Cov history lovers) it's brilliant.
Have to agree Lindatee2002. I think he has a couple of things for sale- like a couple of Coventry History book and old glass bottles but I doubt he'd part with his main collection (you know how it is, you wouldn't want to let your treasures go either hahaa) but if you were interested then I doubt there's any harm in asking him.
There are some tins/ boxes for donations on a voluntary basis for those who want to support the mini museum.
Here's a new article on the subject:

Many of you - particularly those joined in the last few years - will not know of a once-regular poster named Kaga. He was a colourful character and his tales of growing up from the Depression years in Coventry and watching its development were very readable! I've put them together in a booklet - "Kaga's Coventry, compiled by John Walker" - which Rob has kindly added to the Members Articles - the orange button in the left panel. Enjoy!

Hi 20A
Happy to remove the link - how could I have been aware that it was stolen? The Macnamara site gives no information. Would you be OK with a reference such as "Photo taken by 20A-Manor House of his younger brother on the Slough". Include the year perhaps? Easily done!

JohnnieWalker - My own contribution to 'members articles' is 'Hawkesbury's connections with the 1940 Blitz.' My research was triggered by some slightly inaccurate recollections from Kaga on this forum where he muddled up the deaths of his two relatives. I did have some brief email conversations with him at the time. I visited Lentons Lane Baptist Chapel where a kind lady pointed out the graves of two young men, and I also visited Longford village where I spoke to several locals. I had further help from forum members, and from trawling through the rather depressing lists of those who died on that fateful night.

It's very hard to get history right, even when quoting reputable sources but especially when quoting your memory of how things were as a child. Going back to official records and working things out from the ground up can counter recollections. Kaga's facts weren't always researched from more modern books or original records, so they could be less accurate than they might have been. But these are his perceptions, so treat them as such. Especially if AI decides to quote him!!!
