Stivichall / Styvechale

Question raised in the house tonight (well, the flat, really!) about Stivichall Hall, which is remembered as a ruin in the 1950s Does anyone recall this building, know its story, have any photos? Certainly would be appreciated

There is a picture of Stivichall Hall in David McGrory's book " The Illustrated History of Coventry's Suburbs" With a short piece about it. It was built by Arthur Gregory in 1755 and in the process they demolished the old village leaving only the Church and Stivichall Grange and a few other buildings. The estate was eventually left to a cousin Alexander Hood who later became Gregory-Hood he later sold the land for the memorial park in 1922. His son sold the estate to Coventry Corporation in 1928.

It was the Gregory family who lived there, after which Gregory Hood Rd is named

Anyone know of any images of Stivichall Old Mill? Also I'm a bit confused about the Old Hall as linked by Anne above and what remains today off the Leamington Road.

Go on, give us a clue where it was. Oopse, no I've found it and yes, that was what I thought it was. Wisteria Cottage and The Cottage

Wisteria Cottage had a horse-chestnut tree just inside its front garden. We threw sticks to dislodge the conkers (probably way too early for them to fall) until the resident of the cottage fondly (probably not fondly) known as 'Old Grumpy' came out and threatened us... or just shouted. We also made our way into the cottage next door. Derelict in the late 50's.
