More fascinating Coventry Archives finds. The Ring Road takes shape. Pretty sure that's Trafalgar Street in the foreground with the open Sherbourne behind the houses.

Another cracker Neil. It's hard to imagine that area with pretty little gardens, when what they really wanted was somewhere to hang the washing and for the kids to play.

As I've already added an image of Hertford House to this thread... a lady called Sue Ward added these images to FB over the weekend. They are possibly the best complete images I have seen of Hertford House and certainly of its garden. Taken in the early 50's when her mum came to Coventry from Wales and lived there as it was apparently used at that time by the YWCA. ...and the garden - this is looking SE towards Queens Road on the other side of the wall at the far end. I think that property on the very left would be at the very southern end of Starley Road. On Old Maps it's listed as being known as South Gate.

I've only just spotted on the image in post #61. You can see The Woolpack Inn at 149 Spon Street on the upper left, behind what appears to be a pale blue caravan. It really emphasizes the severing of the street.
