We have had a shot of that terrific clock before (on another thread which I couldn't locate, mods!) however this is taken from Queens Road I believe with Warwick Road going across left to right. I think that's St Patrick's Road ahead.
Police box on the junction!!

Great period shot of the Butts Works, later Winfray Building / Tech Annexe, as per my earlier post #18.
Ah, interesting to compare that one with my postcard image - I'm assuming, then, that the lovely house on the end was demolished so the factory could be expanded. I wonder if the locals back then complained as much as people do nowadays about the removal of nice properties?

This cracking shot comes from Nicola Smith on FB of Queens Road looking west. You can see the Winfray building on the right, the turn into York Street and the Baptist Chapel with its full length spire! When the road was really one of the main arteries to the south of the city centre.

Fantastic shot, Neil. I worked at Brita Finish Ltd. (electroplaters) for a while. The frontage of the Hen & Chickens PH can be seen just a few buildings along. The entrance to Upper York Street and the abattoir is just visible. York Street (where the Anslows sign is) seems to have been closed off. |

Don't think so, Mods. Just beyond the third cyclist you can see a break in the kerbstones, where York Street is - there's a pedestrian just about to cross over it. It was a narrow street - and it's still open, although it just gives access nowadays to the Ramada carpark, whereas it used to lead into Moat Street. |

As a follow-up to post #33, Nicola Smith has allowed me to share the next one (apparently there are a few more!). They were taken by a Mr M Toms. This was the view looking the other way west at the junction with Hertford Place. Another great capture and detail of that property on the corner (looking at the 1950 map would've been 32 Queens Road). The couple are crossing the Regent Street junction. I was at that spot this morning - sadly nowhere near as lovely today.

Strangely, the address of the "Aardvark", formerly "Hen & Chicks" (1835-1994) and "Fowl & Firkin" (1994-2001), is no.2 Butts |

In the distance, the top of the spire of St Thomas's Church can just be seen behind the trees where my parents were married in 1940. |
