We lived on Torcross Avenue and all our friends and neighbours went to Wyken Croft, I remember a huge gang of us including mums and prams trapsing up the hill every morning. I have fond memories of Wyken Croft, from rolling down the 'banks' at playtime and being chased by lads with daddy long legs! I remember the big fire which meant for ages we had to go to the infant school to eat lunch. My teachers there were: Mrs Allen, Mrs Irving, Mrs Pratt, Mr Norbury, Mrs Bell, Mrs Athey and the Head Teacher was Mr Jelley. I also have a vague memory of Bob Geldof coming to the school and we all tried to squeeze in behind him so we could appear on the news. And a charity event in which we all sold strips of paper which eventually became a paper chain that stretched from the school gates all the way down to the Risen Christ church! So many happy memories!

I too have happy memories of Wyken Croft school, but in the era of Head Master Mr Hall, and teachers Mrs Stevens, Mrs Ward, Mrs Lee, Mr Crampton, Mr Norbury, Mr Perks and Mr Rushworth. Also remember the Daddy Long Legs, but that must have been a Crofty thing, as I was there at a different time

Those daddy long legs must indeed have been a 'Croft' thing. I was at Annie Osborn at the other end of the Croft, and we were over run with the damned things.

Happy memories of Wyken Croft Infants/Juniors in 1950's/60's. Living in Torcross Avenue - Happy Days. I wonder if anyone remembers any of the girls in the photograph on a school trip to Stratford? There are many I can recall (even if just first names). Among them there is Ingrid, Elaine, Christine, a few Elizabeths, Anne and Linda

I went to Wyken Croft school, 1950/1960, Mrs Bell was headmistress, we called her 'dingdongbell', she told us stories every Tuesday morning in 'long assembly', lovely lady, I remember she had a false leg. Teachers I remember were Mr Rushworth, Mrs Bibby and others. Those were my happiest school days - wasn't crazy about the dinners or the school nurse but I'm guessing others felt the same.

Hello everyone! Does anyone here remember the burial of the millennium time capsule at Wyken Croft primary school? I remember being one of the kids in year 6 who was in the paper with Lady Godiva actually helping to bury the capsule and I cannot find any information about it online. Does anyone know where I'd be able to find out any information on it? Such as the photo from the paper or the location of the burial site, the contents of the capsule, or if it has been dug up yet? It was 20 years ago and I had forgotten all about it until now and I'm so curious! Thanks

Christina, You could try contacting the school itself. I believe they've just created a covid 2020 time capsule. Contact details found here.

Hi Christina, welcome to the forum. Wave Have you tried the British Newspapers online? Someone might pop up with access.

Unfortunately nothing in the newspaper about Wyken Croft after 1998! Try the school, I am sure they must have something.
