I remember Bardsley House (named after Cuthbert Bardsley) from the mid-seventies where we often went for coffee during the day. Apparently it is still there today and is used by Coventry Cathedral's Youth Ministry. There was also John F Kennedy House in Hill Top which I think was demolished when that area was redeveloped. I may have confused the two buildings but I believe JFK House was built with a cantilever balcony overlooking the lower part of the hill and there was talk of preserving it as it had been inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. In the late 1970s one of them was used as the base for the Unemployed Workers Party in Coventry.

I remember it and it did open some evenings, maybe weekends as a kind of church associated Youth Club in the late 60's/early 70's. It wasn't really our thing only went in a couple of times (too many hippies) !

Hill Top
Circa 1920. My father as a young lad lived in the New Buildings Hill Top, That's how he described it, with his brother & sisters. He and a friend would climb into the abattoir at the bottom of the hill in Pool Meadow and got up to no good. One time they got spotted, during a hasty retreat he slipped and got stuck on a railing spike, he was, very very lucky, he told me.
They built a trolley for the Hill Top Run, from Holly Trinity church at the top (as photo), winding all the way down to Pool Meadow. They never made it to the bottom in one go, more like 10.
In 1959/62, I was in the Holy Trinity Church Scouts group, for our scout meetings we used a hall on the top floor of the building, that's now Nando's & opposite was the scout shop.

I do have some memories of this place, although I wasn't a regular visitor. It would have been in my 6th form years which were 1969-71. I seem to recall going there for refreshments with others from school a few times, but have a feeling it was also after school as I used to get my bus at the Council House. It was named after the old Bishop so had some religious connections. JFK House has also been mentioned, and I have to admit I may be getting the two confused.

An interesting view of Priory Row during the excavations of the New Cathedral posted on the 'Coventarian' FB page. I don't know about the wine merchants but an interesting comparison view to Cliff's photo earlier in this thread.
