It's interesting to see this as it was. I often have my car MOT'd at this place and you can see that the roof has been removed at some point because the remaining walls on the railway side still have windows in them. The whole area as you drive in and park feels like it should have a roof over it and the photo now shows that (forgive my ignorance as I'm too young to have known this area as anything else). The roof remains intact on the building further back which is the current enclosed garage as shown on previous posts on this thread. The small building with the Belgrade advert on it recently had a burger wagon installed next to it for a while but this has now been removed. What a shame the cottages were destroyed! I would have thought they would be very sought after today!

Heres' the yard in '92 not long before Central Six went up.

Sad to report (though happy to be corrected!) that it appears Warwick Road Garage may have finally closed up. Gates have been locked for a while now and looks mysteriously empty to me. The owners seemed to be genuinely interested in the Goods Yard connections as well going by this shot on their Facebook page (note the old railwaymen's cottages in the background beside King Henry's.

I took these some time in the 70s, when I was shown around the old goods yard. Alas, these are the only two left of a whole roll of film. This was the only part left standing of No1 shed; and this was the interior with some magnificent hand-operated cranes; The colour has faded a little but I remember all the ironwork being painted quite a bright yellow color

Yes, Neil, I got a similar impression back in October when I passed by and took this photo - although there's a vehicle in there, it looks strangely quiet for the middle of a working day Sad

Hi all, it will be a real shame if this goods depot is lost as it is a real gem! It would make a cracking small BR museum? My uncle worked there in the sixties driving a Scammel Scarab 3 wheeled truck and trailer. He took me out in it a few times - wow was it noisy! He and his family lived in the BR cottages up the steps just beside the goods yard. In 1967 he was really made up when he was presented with a brand new TK artic unit. He said compared to the Scammel it was like a Rolls Royce!

They were definitely doing business up to Christmas Cliff but the gates appear to have been firmly locked since the New Year. I drive past most days so will keep an eye on things. Someone needs to save the remaining elements of the old yard if they have.

Update - the garage seem to be trading still but possibly on reduced hours/selected days as I've now seen it opened again. Did not have my camera with me today but if anyone is on the area - went past this afternoon and it appears in readiness for the staton platform expansion as part of the Friargate development they have completely cut back the greenery by the bridge/opposite The Rocket and along the side of the Birmingham side track exposing all of what is left of the few goods yard buildings incorporated in to Warwick Road garage. I will try to get down there later Sunday afternoon to photograph as it's quite interesting to see.

This one is interesting as I've realised its one of the other rows of the railwaymen's cottages - this the row facing Warwick Road whereas the one posted earlier (post 24) was the row facing the railway line (the end of which you can see to the right). The entrance to the triangle to the left would be roughly opposite Michaelmas Road today and would be where the entrance/exit to King Henry's is now. The land was used to extend the school and incorporates their all weather netball 'pitch' now. You can almost picture them here Sad Though as can be seen by the early 80's in this photo from the superb Warwickshire Railways website - they had still done nothing with the land even by then.

I've been looking for this one for a while - knew it was around but lost track of it. OK not a lot of the goods yard visible but here's Coventry's very own The Specials loitering on the goods yard no doubt taking a break from a session at Horizon Studios, I'm guessing circa 1978/79 - and that's the footbridge to Spencer Park they have just gone under. I remember those cobbles that became massively pot-holed when the tracks were dug up and the scrub land became a temporary car park until Central 6 was built.

A small snippet of the yard, the bridge and the railwaymen's cottages here together with the Memorial Park from this terrific shot of a Whitley bomber flying over its home town 'on guard!'. Gives the idea though of the amount of traffic that went through there.

Don't remember if it's been mentioned before but the right of way across the footbridge is known as Six Fields footpath and continues all the way to Earlsdon Avenue South.
