My pals and I used to haunt the rink in the early 60s .We wore jeans and cuban heeled "Beatle" boots with tee shirts . Those whose parents could afford one had a leather jacket , some others wore a synthetic alternative , usually with the Longford Rockers emblem painted on even though none of us actually had a motorbike .
Then in early 64 I discovered a world of fantastic clothes . I was a mod - at least as far as fashion was concerned . After saving all my earnings I turned up to meet my mates wearing a white shirt with blue collar and cuffs , checked hipsters , half belt jacket and pigskin loafers . One of my mates said " Don't wear that gear up the rink , you'll get your head kicked in ." Never saw the inside of the rink again , or my "mates" .
I couldn't have a Lambretta or a Vespa though , the navy wouldn't allow you to park one on a ship . |

I recall the checked hipsters and pig skin loafers. Yes a lot could nt afford the real leather jackets, later I recall studs on the back of the jackets. |

Does anyone know where Woodhouses Yard, Longford would have been? My great grandfather Joseph Greenway and family lived there according to the 1911 Census, and I know the family later moved to Oaks Yard, I remember visiting him there as a small child Question Tracy

I m not sure TracyO if its where Dove Dale s wood yard is now , on the right heading towards Bedworth on Bedworth Road brow of the Bridge. Oaks Yard, ? do you mean Oaks Place, where an old house sits on its own, which my daughters friend, her family lived in that house , said to be haunted and was the home of the hang man of Coventry. |

Woodhouse Yard was off Longford Road opposite the area between the entrances to Lady Lane and Vinecote Road. There was a path at the bottom leading to the park. The site now is occupied by the carpark to Longford Health Centre. Joseph Greenway is at number 11 in 1921 and 1931. |

Walrus, Hi post 253 hey I was baptised same church same year as your mother all of our family baptism, weddings funerals all Longford rev 'Standing' was the vicar, we all had doctor Webster in Hurst rd. Yes I remember the fox pub on the corner at Foxford, but most of this forum is strange, hardly recognise any of the streets or buildings, even the park is hard to recognise were we played football and cricket for so many years.
but Longford Church had an off shoot or what ever you call it was a small church in Lentons Lane that we went to but anything like Palm Sunday etc and we went to Longford. Hey saturday's we went to the tuppenny rush at the rivoli. |

The "offshoot" church in Lentons lane was St Mathews Church, the tin church. It stood between what is now Tynemouth Close and the Old Crown. |

I think this is a photo of the Boat Inn, Grange Road (not to be confused with the Boat Inn, Blackhorse Lane). The Fox was located near the corner of Grange Road and Hurst Road, next to the old Foxford (later Grangehurst) school. Both were demolished years ago. |

Kaga , I've just checked my mum's baptism certificate .The minister is Charles W. Dodd , perhaps a curate . Her maiden name is Twigger , the family lived at 37 Grange Road although I don't know how long for because they moved round the area as my grandfather moved pits . My grandfather was a collier as were several of his relatives . He worked several of the local pits and finished up as Deputy of Keresley pit . |
