Heathite - my mention of Henley Mill Lane was to identify the unnamed road in Kaga's post #55, not as an identification of the image Wink

Hi MR - ok but you are usually much more specific and not so vague. Thanks for clarifying.

Heathite, there's no other road that fits, the road is downhill and into the country. I doubt it being Proffitt Ave that would be looking in to Foleshill, not Hall Green Road, the photographer would be in Taylors Farm, not Old Church Rd, too built up, only Henley Road left, I see Henley Mill Lane hidden on the right of the picture, the road bends slightly left going up to the Co-op, you say too level, from the top of Bell Green there was only one way you could go was down slightly, has the road been altered a great lot since the thirties? It used to be a large green verge on the right as far down as Henley Mill Lane. Looking closely at the road it doesn't seem as though a bus has touched those verges, so I would guess before 1935. Somehow in my mind it all looks familiar, as a kid I used to run down Lentons Lane, down Deedmore Rd, up that street and round to Tusses Bridge, couple of times a week. Pity I didn't notice the surroundings more. I believe walrus is right, Henley Road.

Hi all, and thanks for your input. I think this map from 1913 proves you are right. The housing layout seems to confirm the area.

Hi Kaga. I had those shops, late 80's and early 90's. This is them when I was there...

Good to see you back. Did you change them? They look different somehow to the forties and that island wasn't there. I did a milk round with pony and trap - my mare stopped right where you turn into the A G Rd to do "you know what". A car was held up for some minutes, making a lot of fuss, she took no notice, a mare held up the Coventry Mayor - it was a laugh at the time.

Hi Kaga, it's good to be back. When I used the shops in the 1960's, they had being knocked into one large shop. I took this shot of the Coventry Heritage bus quickly on my phone a couple of years ago. You can see the building in the background, now converted into flats.

20A-Manor House, Was there a house by the river behind your garage? And beside the bus on other side of river there was a pub in the thirties?

Kaga. The old pub, "The Rose in June". The old gentlman who lived there was a lovely guy. Came in the shop everyday. He told me it had shut in the 30's, but everything was still there, the bar etc..! I was always going to go over and look, but never did. Sadly, it got burnt down. By the side of the building there is a public footpath and there are some houses behind.

Interesting to see them like that. I used to use them occasionally in the 60s and 70s (mum still lives behind where the Green Man stood, on Pearson Avenue). They look pretty grim now, sadly.

Manor House, Behind the Rose and Crown was a gate and carriageway up to Taylors Farm before Wood End was built.

Kimbo The above may have been Rose in June, and it stood edge on to either road, sort of from the corner towards the farm. The Green Man had two cottages attached to the right hand side. In one lived the Nassaus, but the entrance to Pearson Ave was along Hall Green Rd. What happened after the war I have no idea.
