Hi, has any one got any old photos of Broad Street and Broad Street School or any of Stoke Aldermoor as I am doing a scrapbook for myself and for my mum. Any help will be grateful, thanks to you all

Hi Covman, Have looked around but I cannot find anything out there. Friends Reunited is a no-no as are other sites. Have you tried going to the Broad Heath Primary School? They might just be able to point you in the right direction. It is a shame that Normk did not take any photos before he knocked it down, he has a lot to answer for has our Normk, considering that he is responsible for knocking half of Coventry down single handedly.

Just to say thank you for that, need to see if I can get some of a later date like 40 and 50 of Broad Street and the 60 and 70 of Stoke Aldermoor, thanks again

Hi to you all, can anyone help, we are looking for any info on this, if you can help with info or photos where it was, thanks for all your help if you do. War memorial plaque is to finally find a permanent home after years of being dogged by bad fortune. The plaque, which was originally 4ft by 3ft oak and gold, carried the names of 167 servicemen from Stoke Aldermoor who were killed or returned alive from the Second World War. It was originally displayed in Stoke Aldermoor Working Men's Club until the club was destroyed by fire in 2000. Having survived the fire, it had to be rescued again after its next home - the Aldermoor Hotel - closed down. The plaque was later recovered from a skip after it was found by a passer-by in Warwick. It was later found a home at St Catherine's Church, in Pake's Croft, but that also closed down - making the plaque homeless once again. Since that time it had been stored at Aldermoor Farm Primary School and the school displayed a photograph of the plaque. But now residents want to find it a permanent home where it can be prominently displayed. Raymond Stabler, chairman for Stoke Aldermoor Community Association, said the group hoped to restore the plaque and display it in a specially constructed memorial garden at the Life Centre, in Roundhouse Road. Now the group is trying to locate anyone who knows about the plaque or can help restore missing information. He said: * The plaque used to be up at the working men's club before a fire burnt the place down. * It then went to the Aldermoor Hotel, which closed down. It was after that someone came across it in a skip in Warwick. * The community centre recently got a lottery grant which we used to build a memorial garden. * We have taken a photo of the plaque and put it in the garden, but we would like to restore it and have the real thing there. * There are a lot of names on it - not just people who fought and died, some are still alive today. * It would be nice to get them all round when it is done and show them that the community hasn't forgotten anybody. * The plaque is currently sitting in a box but we are talking about getting it restored, getting it put up and having an unveiling at the community centre.

As a child I grew up in Stoke Aldermoor and would sometimes play in near to the River Sowe not far from where the Ernesford Grange housing estate is now situated. Somewhere to the back of the GEC/Marconi/Copsewood social club near to the river was the remains of a brick structure known as the "Threepenny Bit". Does anyone else remember this and if so, Do you know if it is still there, What was its original function, When was it built, Are there any old maps available on which it is shown.
