I ride my bike on occasions but the obstacle course that is the new cycle lane which has now gone up along Coundon Road/Barkers Butts Lane is ridiculous if you ask me. Anyway to add to this - not sure if it will form part of the cycle lane but when I went past on Saturday there is now a sign up next to the underpass at Coundon Road level crossing that says it has closed permanently.

Neil, you must have nerves of steel to be riding a bike during these turbulent times. Roll eyes

I grew up near Barker's Butts and it used to be a lovely road to drive on. It was the same as you continued along Westhill Road and Hollyfast Road. Now it's just horrible to drive through and only yesterday I watched an elderly lady struggle to park on one of the new pavements along Barker's Butts. I don't see a huge amount of cyclists using these new cycle lanes though. And how many people use those hire bikes which are outside Coundon Library?

Dreamer, I've not seen a single bike on it yet - followed one last week who was still using the main road!

The problem is they started building it at the wrong end! They are only just starting on the section from the level crossing to the ring road so anybody using it gets thrown into traffic at the level crossing. I would love to use it - but it doesn't go near my house. The council are building cycle lanes where they want people to cycle, not where people actually want to go. A cycle lane from Warwick University to the city centre via Earlsdon would be very well used.

Neil, I don't think Barker's Butts was a road that experienced a significant amount of speeding cars and it's not great for bikes either. It's a steep hill and it's easier to dismount a cycle and walk when heading upwards. The council must have spent a fortune narrowing the road but I cannot see who will benefit from it.

I was born in Basset's Road Nursing Home in April 1947. I think it became a private house some time in the 1950's. My parent's lived in Three Spires Avenue so Mum didn't have far to go!
