Somewhere west of the Burges Big grin Seriously, your guess is as good as mine. Depending on the date, it was mostly iron and steel works in that area.

Thanks for that Midland Red, was this the building that is opposite Buttons cafe, as I remember sitting on the second floor looking out the window to a brick built building that had some white writing on the top (some sort of graffiti), said something about Pink Floyd? I can't remember, can anyone else?

Thanks mate, as I say it used to have some writing, I think someone had lent over the roof and painted it on with a brush, as I say can't remember what it said but it was there a few years ago.

This excellent! I have been meaning to ask if there is any info on what the remaining old buildings of Burges/Cross Cheaping were.

Bit of information about the photo. The building to the right of Comley's was the Fountain Inn. The white, gabled building opposite the inn later became the Forbidden Planet and you can see that there was another building and a half before Ironmonger Row. The right side of Comley's was built over the river Sherbourne and was the site of one of the two bridges that gave the Burges it's name. Troughton sketch of the river on the west side (bigger version than thumbnail)
