Does anyone have a photograph of what used to stand here? I would be very pleased to obtain a copy for my photosite if anyone has one

If I remember correctly it was a public urinal!

Hi, it was called "The Green Man". It was a circular urinal with an entrance on both sides made of metal, painted green. Next to it, facing towards Ford St, was a blue Police box (same as Doctor Who). I remember it as being roughly with a 10ft diameter (I was a bit smaller then) with perforated holes in it as a pattern. I was born approx. 50yds away from it, in Lower Ford St. On the other corner that is missing on the photo stood the "Canterbury Arms", now demolished, it had one bar with a door on both sides, one into Alma St and one into Lower Ford St. I also would like a photo if anyone could supply.

Hi, found these for anybody who has not seen a "green-man" before. Cannot find one like the one that was on Lower Ford St. The one with the old fashioned gas lamp on is very similar to the one that used to be up Adelaide St, on the pointy corner which then ran down to Brightwalls. Sorry about first pic but had to show the inside, lol. Cheers I know the theme is Francis-Barnett but it is about Lower Ford St. Post copied from topic Francis-Barnett on 16th Oct 2017 1:38 pm

Nice one Adrian Thumbs up It's more enclosed than I remember it. Roll eyes I mentioned in another thread that if I balanced on a post in my back garden in Gosford Street, I could see that GLASS sign on the building behind it! At the time I wrote that I wasn't 100% sure it was the same building but the picture confirms it. Smile

The police box was positioned somewhere where the telegraph pole is, with its back almost against the urinal. Looking at the state of it, I would think this pic is not long before demolition. Just as I remember it, there was another opening on the other side also. Cheers Thumbs up

scrutiny. We dismantled a circular one in Canterbury Street many years ago. It was cast iron, it got sold, maybe a summer house or something like that. Big grin

Hi Norm, The only other urinal I remember was up a little cobbled street across from the top of Canterbury St on a triangular corner of houses. This one was smaller than the one in Lower Ford St. Is this the one you refer to? I think I will stop here, beginning to sound like a urinal freak. Roll eyes Big grin

This was at the junction of Adelaide St and Castle St - again in the middle of the road.

You got the one Mick, its not Canterbury St at all. I remember if you turned right out of Albert St (flats end) it was down there on the junction Thumbs up PS - you can just see it on historic imagery.

What do you mean by 'historic imagery' NormK? Is is something I'm missing, a web site?
