One of my mother's favourite sayings, when exasperated about something, was "well I'll go to Stoke". I never knew which Stoke she was alluding to.

Does anyone know what the name of the road was which was at the junction with Stoney Stanton Road - the junction before (south) of the one with Stanton Street? It doesn't appear to be marked with a road-name on any map that I can see? Arthur Street ran at its western end -

Looking at the numbering in the 50s, it might have been classed as Stanton Street. 1 and 2 were there, where number 3 onwards were on Stanton Street proper. |

I think you could be right, my Gran lived at 22 George St, and I don't remember seeing a road or street running between Stanton St and the Rose & Woodbine. Perhaps it's the back jetty to Stanton St.

I think Lolipop is right - if you look at the layout of the buildings, Harnall Lane and Stanton Street both have houses fronting onto them, so the unmarked roadway between is just a back entry or jetty giving access to the rear of the properties. |

Rob. the buildings on the corner of Stanton St / Stoney Stanton Rd must have been bombed or demolished. I remember a haulage company used to park trailers with breeze blocks on where the buildings stood . That might explain why I have no recollection that there was a road /street there. Memories start coming back to you after 70+ years
