Does anyone remember this firm? Bryant of Coventry

Maybe it's the hot weather today but I can't recall seeing these old shots of Stoney Stanton Road before. I'd like to know more about the shop in the first one and where the houses are situated in photo No. 2. Apologies If am boring you all to death with images you have seen before. As an aside, from the upstairs back window of the new health centre in Stoney Stanton Road it's still possible to glimpse views of the old Coventry.

Thanks for all those details NormK I've sent you a pint because it's such a hot evening still! Is that the shop that was bombed in the picture? There's something standing outside it but I couldn't fathom out was it was. It must be an optical illusion but the houses that were bombed on Photo (2) look as if they have really narrow doorways don't they!

Yes it is Dreamtime, if you zoom in you can see the stripy gable end that we mentioned a while ago. In fact if you look at morgana's pub guide that has just gone on you will see what I am on about.

Yes the Bon Bon was on one corner, it's a chemists shop now and on the opposite corner was a ramshackle shop that for a while was a bike shop. I remember coming from a night out in Birmingham in 59/60 and in those days you came along Foleshill Road and turned right into Harnall Lane which exited onto the crossroads being Stoney Stanton Road junction where there were traffic lights opposite the Bon Bon. Anyway I came through too fast and drove into the railings in front of that old bike shop. There were no high rise flats behind this shop at the time just a piece of waste land. Next to the old Bon Bon was a massive bomb crater, it was there for years. Remember the bomb crater at the rear of Woolworths? They used to throw broken items into it from the store and every weeknight everyone scrambled about in it to find that precious half broken toy.

My great aunt, Edith Gough, and her friend, Ethel Mills, had a millinery shop on the Stoney Stanton Road, from the early twenties until the mid-sixties. I can remember visiting them on a Sunday. I lived in Leamington at the time; we would catch a bus to Pool Meadow, walk through The Swanswell and into Stoney Stanton Rd. The shop was not too far up SSR and was on the left hand side. I was wondering if anyone remembers it or the two ladies & would love to know its exact location and any memories/photos that anyone can dredge up!
