I was 3 or 4 years of age when I remember a party being held in Thomas Lane Street to celebrate V.E.Day. I lived in Proffitt Avenue and remember joining up with Thomas Lane Street. On the same day a film show was also held in the Old Church School, what the show was about, I cannot remember. Is there anyone out there that does recall these events or maybe has pictures of the day?

VE Day was Tuesday 8th May 1945. It was Saturday (the 12th) before a street party was organised close to where I was born (Ashwood Avenue, Coundon). My brother, who was three, went off to the street party and when he returned, there was I, a screaming new-born infant!

Hello again everyone, I've been given another wonderful set of photos to scan, which are now on the site under "Mystery photos". This time it's a bunch of street party photographs from VE Day, 1945 - taken around the Keresley area. Some places are known, like Hardy Road and The Wallace pub, but it'll be great if anyone can identify the rest of the places.... and even better if you recognise any of your friends or relatives celebrating our country's hard earned victory. https://www.historiccoventry.co.uk/photo-mysteries/content.php?pg=keresley-ve-day-parties And some of our more senior members might even recognise themselves as kids.... now that'll be worth sharing! Cheers

Great find Rob ! It would be good when the locations have been identified to have a 'then & now' shot. Maybe Midland Red can help ? Did anyone else notice the lack cars/vehicles on the streets ?

Pictures 7a and 7b seem to be taken from approx, no 4 Benson road. The block of houses missing (bombed out maybe) has been rebuilt, If you google earth it you should have a red car to the left of the shot. Pictures 1a and 1b appear to be no1 Fraser road on google, should be a black car to the left of pic. Thumbs up or down, whatever the case might be.

The only thing I can add to this is the fact that it appears that all the houses are of a design built between the wars. Also it seems that the pictures were not taken on a simple camera as where there are shots along the party table the photographer has focussed on the table and the houses in background are out of focus.

Thank you all for such an amazing and quick response to these photos so far. Over the weekend I'll make time to update the HC "mystery" page with all your new information, which is much appreciated. I wonder if there are any 70+ year-olds out there who recognise themselves as kids???
