Hi,
I was at Windmill Road School in 1945 but my sister Doreen was in the same class as Arthur Patterson who I also have been in touch with.
So where are the ones from 1945 onwards.

Hi Margaret.
Seems to be a bit of a mix up here.
Windmill Rd was not really a mixed school. The boys occupied one half and the girls the other. There was no contact either in the school building or the playgrounds. At the front there was a high railing to keep pupils apart and at the back a wall did the same. The wall in the photograph was the dividing wall at the back. As you can see in the picture there no girls in the class.
My sister Jean McCausland attended Windmill Rd school at the same time as you, you may remember her.
I also have a photograph of all the teachers there at that time will look for it and load it to here. Les

Teachers at Windmill Rd about 1942.
There is Miss Siddley who I had a schoolboy crush for, sadly she fancied Mr Hughes. Miss Griffiths is there also Mr Fellows who had a newsagents on Foleshill Rd. There is Baldwin, Day, Edwards AKA Quinny or Cuff because he had a nasty habbit of cuffing pupils at the back of the neck. There is also Miss Davies who had a serious BO problem, and Mr Hughes. Les

I attended Windmill Road Primary School from 1955 - 1962 after which I went to Foxford after passing my 11 plus. I was born in Arbury Avenue and 63 years later I have moved less than 100 yards into Astley Avenue (sad but true) I have a 4 or 5 photos of the school and will post in due course. The way I understand it is that it was Windmill Road Primary but became Longford Park when you went to the senior school. I remember my mates who stayed referred to us 11 plussers as Foxford Snobs.
Starting in 1955 aged 4, I remember being in classes held by Mrs Branson, Mrs Milner, Mrs Branson (again) Miss Scotting, Mr Ebrahim (in the temporary classrooms on stilts), Mr Williams & finally Mr Fuller.
Anyway here is the 1st of my photos taken I believe behind Miss Oughton's office next to Mr Hill's classroom in 1955.
I cannot work out out how to post a photo. I must be getting old. HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to Windmill Road school from about 1949 through to 1959 ish, I started in the infants, then the juniors and eventually the seniors throughout my time there it was a mixed school. In the senior school our head mistress was Miss Griffiths We are trying to make contact with as many old class mates as we can find, I moved to Devon some 40 years ago, we have so far contacted old friends other parts of the world so if you were at the school between 1949 and 1959 we would love to here from you.. |
