Hi all, I've been working on a computer of model for the last couple of years. I've recently uploaded a few early video drafts to youtube, the current version (still be worked on) is much more complete (more to come later). Hope you enjoy Various Buildings Coventry Arms High Street 1 High Street 2 Changes at Lower Ford Street Lady Godiva

Hi Pete I had a quick look this morning (Aussie time) and certainly did enjoy it. I've tried the sort of software you must be using, and I have to confess I could barely produce a model of the spare bedroom, so I'm seriously impressed with your work. I'm surprised that you haven't had a flood of congratulatory messages - they will come - I guess everyone is recovering from a long night watching the Olympics! Cheers

What a fantastic set of images Pete, it must have taken you ages to get this all together, and I look forward to more posts from you in the future.

What a wonderfully unique and innovative way to use that 3D software - I love it! Eventually it will be like taking a virtual walk through old Coventry.... perhaps we can all meet up there for a virtual chat. Lol Nice one Pete! Thumbs up

I have long thought that with all the photographs of old Coventry available, the technology would eventually arrive by which we could move around the city and see it as it used to be. By joining up reference points on various buildings, it seems that we are gradually approaching that point. Well done Rob.

Thanks for the messages. If anyone wants to have a go all the software is free. I've used google sketch up and a few other addons all can be found here. It's a simple user friendly bit of software. If you get stuck there are loads of tutorials on you tube. I've used the historical maps as a reference for the rough dimentions and with a photograph (and using the photo match option) to get the height (plus other detials). Also the Coventry Planning Portal is a good source to use for plans etc. Happy to help if anyone needs it. Pete

Very nice. I mess around a bit with SketchUp, but more for projects I'd like to do to change Coventry (mainly the city centre) rather than recreate what is/was there. I've done a few things for Broadgate and the Precinct, the train station/Friargate area as well as a vague plan on a north-south route through the city centre from the station to the basin. As it's more of a concept thing I don't put that much building detail in and I don't bother with texturing etc cos my computer's too old and it'd slow it down too much.
