Hi all Wave Of all of the areas in our Coventry area, this is one area where I would be nervous of any financial exposure. The complications of the city & the county boundary as well as a fractious development history many of which have finished up in the on site 'effluent treatment plant'. Some info here. Quote from site. 'While no planning application has been submitted, some 'consultation' work has already been done, and the FRA are trying to encourage more. There has been an application for 'request for a scoping opinion' submitted to WDC on 1st June 2012. The work is in partnership with Roxhill Development'.

I support this, but wonder if it'll be of little benefit to Coventry. If it does manage to attract 'hi tech' jobs, the chances are that the people who earn decent salaries will live in Warwickshire. I work in a 'hi tech' company and virtually none of the staff live in the city. I'd say 3/40 of the department live locally. The rest commute from villages and towns in Warwickshire, Solihull and Birmingham! (In the meantime, Coventry's urban brownfield sites are proving impossible to redevelop for business use - so this will be another large out of town development only accessible by car and nowhere near anyone actually lives - thus making Coventry even more of a 'Donut' city!)

This has been granted permission (it will go to the government to see if it needs calling in)

Now the government has rejected the plans for the gate way to Coventry project for building business, does that mean not so many houses will be built here.

Question

So who would have been paying for these buildings when there were no businesses interested. Years ago M&S in the city designed and built its own shop.

No. In fact is was the government that made the council INCREASE the level of housing it planned to provide. Ironic that Pickles is saying about the greenbelt in an area that has an airport and an industrial estate, but is supporting a trainline that will cut through swathes of much more pristine greenbelt, and supporting a 100k new town in the Meriden Gap around HS2. While I have issues with the project re: the expected levels of jobs created (some were extremely short term and only involved during the construction phase) and the quality and level of pay of those jobs, to block it on the grounds he did is totally disingenuous.

Hi all Wave It maybe the timing which is the issue, so close to a general election. Coventry south & its boarders into Warwickshire are the current coalition governments most likely support areas. After May, the issue may be looked at again. Mr Pickles may be looking after his votes, not jobs. Wink
