Does anyone remember Peter Spooner-Whyte? I know he lived in Coventry 43-early 60s and then went to University in Leeds.

Excellent work Helen! Opened it up nicely. I found a planning application at 75 Mary Herbert Street in 1967 which shows a Mr M. Spooner- Whyte as the applicant. Finding "Spooner-Whyte" anywhere is proving problematic.

Just checked the 1965 electoral roll for 75 Mary Herbert Street at the Herbert. In 1965, there were 4 people of voting age in the property: •  Michael J. Spooner-Whyte. •  Bettina K. Spooner-Whyte. •  Peter R. Spooner-Whyte. •  Walter Spooner. Note the last individual was just 'Spooner' not 'Spooner-Whyte'. __________________________________________________ << So from this and Helen's newspaper search we know: -Peter R. Spooner-Whyte Born about 1943 (±1 year) Father: Michael J. Spooner-Whyte Likely mother: Bettina K. Spooner-Whyte The family lived at 75 Mary Herbert Street, Coventry in the 1960's >>

That was kind Garlands Double thumbs up I can confirm that Peter's middle name was Richard. He was still in Leeds in 1967 and it may be that he never returned. There is 24 year old Michael Sean Spooner-Whyte living with his mother in Stamford in 1981 but no other references to the name in the newspapers. However if Peter changed his name to Jones, who knows?

Still at Mary Herbert Street, Walter died 13th April 1970 aged 89. Wife Alice, already dead by that point. Father to Tina (Bettina), Iris and Ralph. CET Wednesday 15 April 1970. So Michael Joseph Whyte before he married Bettina Spooner?

I am Peter, alive and well in California, I was born Peter Jones and adopted later under the name of Spooner-Whyte. I don't recall a Suzie though at 83 I can be forgetful. Do we have a connection Suzie? In addition to those mentioned, Walter was also father to Alban, who moved to Devon.

Hello Peter from across the pond, Welcome. Our membership includes folk from Down under, who at present are struggling with very warm weather, as well as from your territory. Pull up a chair & rest your sidewalks. I was adopted from birth, nearly 79 years ago. I would have been Brown. Have a good day.

Good morning Peter, and welcome. Smile What astonishing good luck that you found this forum! It appears that Suzie has not logged in here since the last time she posted that question. Sorry for not replying sooner. I had little hope in finding Peter. I am now waiting in anticipation for a reply to my email...

Great to hear from Pete Spooner-Whyte. We were at Caludon together and both went to Leeds University in 1961 where, however, I being a geographer, we saw very little of each other - big place, even then. Pete and I both played for the First XV at Caludon. After Leeds, I stayed north of the Trent becoming a teacher in first Liverpool and then Greater Manchester. I live in the Peak District. The only one of our Caludon contemporaries with whom I am still in contact is Brian 'Bryn' Morley who had a very distinguished career as a botanist becoming Director of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. Another member of the Caludon First XV with whom I was until recently in touch was Ian Marks who, like Bryn, had a Ph.D in botany. He was living in Ireland. All good wishes, Pete Martin Brayne (aka Old Caludonian)

There was someone in the year above me who I believe became a professor of physics at Leicester University and elected FRS. Can anyone help me recall his name? He would have left in 1965.
