Hi All, Back in November last year I was in contact with a nice gentleman called Chris Moore, he was looking for the location of a time capsule that was planted when he, his other classmates at St Bartholomew's C.E. Junior School and educational reformer, Lady Plowden, had buried it back on the 7th of December 1971 to commemorate the opening of St Bartolomew's School. The original intentions had been of opening it after 50 years (7th of December 2021)- Suffice as to say it's location- being lost to time and Covid meant that the time capsule was left undiscovered. Luckily I was able to find a photo of the burial which enabled Chris to find it's exact location opposite a set of doors. This week he opened the time capsule. Chris Moore (below) The doll and Toy car survived as did some other items (eg: the shampoo bottle) but presumably the paper documents were lost to water damage. __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ Chris had also previously found and uncovered another time capsule (with the help of Metal Detectorist, Mark Porter, and was assisted in excavating by Paul Moore). This time capsule, unearthed last year, was buried in 1980 in a metal box, to be opened in 2020. Sadly there was much damage, again by water ingress and damp, however some ephemera did survive (comic book, some school documents). An LP, a ball and various school items also survived. The items have been given to the Deputy Head who will hopefully show the pupils to let them see a little piece of history that's sat under their playing fields for just under 55 years. Wave Credit to: Chris Moore and his team (Paul Moore- Assistant digger, and Mark Porter- metal detectorist).

Great detective work Double thumbs up One thing it proves is how little has really changed when it comes to the basics. What has changed beyond recognition is technology. Some of it (and how we use it) was envisioned back in the 70s but other things would be alien to our earlier selves.

I think time capsules are fascinating. There must still be many round undiscovered. The pupils that buried the time capsule must be pleased that their efforts were seen again. I think I have mentioned before but over 50 years ago my mum and I made the Altar Kneeler and some smaller ones for St Thomas Church in Keresley. I put a letter in one of the smaller ones. I hope someone finds it one day. I can't remember what I wrote but it was about what was happening at the time.

My goodness Anne, Hubby and I were married in St.Thomas Church in Keresley (1961) I wonder if we sat on one. It was a perfect day anyway. Big grin

Hello, Not been to St Thomas's for ages. The organ there, if they've still got it, was up a spiral staircase. Nice instrument. My earliest church organ involvement was 1962. Hey, "Last year's grass". Joke! I sometimes wondered why I stopped getting requests to play at Nuneaton crem. It's not there anymore!

Sorry Dreamtime, I think it would have been in the 70's that we did them. I know it was after we were married in 1969.

Like Annewiggy, I often wonder how many time capsules had been buried, and how many still waiting to be unearthed. Time capsules seemed to be quite a thing back in the early 70's, probably inspired by the Blue Peter time capsule that was buried back in June 1971.

Helen. I am going to contact the Church website and tell them about it. I have found a picture of the ones I made. They may be interested.
