Trinity Street 'new images'

Here are two images from The J Valentine Collection held at the University of St Andrews and both taken in 1939: In the Hippodrome shot it's possible to pinpoint more exactly when in 1939 from the artistes appearing on the billboard, notably the Billy Cotton Band. There is a lamppost obscuring the month but, thanks to the Hippodrome/Coventry Theatre/Apollo show archive, we can see it's mid-April. The other image is featured on page 166 of 'The City of Coventry - Images From The Past' by David McGrory, though erroneously dated early 1950s. I'm not surprised he was mistaken as the landscape of that part of the street hadn't changed over 15/20 years. It's just a shame the two images are rather faint, both were hard to find in the collection as they are both captioned 'Untitled'

Thanks for sharing! It's interesting that old Cov pics appear to be turning up in random University collections.......... Makes me excited for what is still to find! BTW I'd not noticed from those early images before the NEW HIPPODROME signage.
