I'm moving and I found a boxful of diaries going waaaaay back. The one for 1964 shows that I went to the White Lion Jazz club almost every Sunday -even though I was underage. The problem is I wrote that the bands were fantastic but I didn't note the names in my tiny diary. Does anyone know if I can get a list of the acts for that year and maybe even 1965?

Hi Linda, I looked in the newspapers for advertisements. Couldn't see much. One says that Mae Mercer performed there in August 1964. Unfortunately, I kept seeing results for the "White Lion Folk Club" instead of "jazz club" which was messing up my searches. Perhaps someone else can have better luck? Apparently the Jazz club was moving away from Jazz in 1964 and towards Rhythm and Blues.

No question about that - Georgie Fame, Long John Baldry, Steampacket and lots more.

Hello Neil, I knew it in effect as the pub part of the Leofric hotel. In the fifties, celebrities would often stay at the Loefric hotel, lardedar, so the pub was to keep the rif-raf out. We couldn't have that, could we Jeaves!

I never went to that pub but I went to the Leofric most Sunday nights. We were really too young to go in but a friends father worked there so were lucky to slide in. We're moving house in a few months - please let this be the last time 13 homes in 57 years - and I found my old diaries from 1964 onwards. The club came up almost every Sunday but I never wrote down who was playing. What an idiot!
