I have a copy of the commemoration from Coventry City Council, regarding the death of my grandfather, who was killed in the November 1940 blitz bombing. It states he was killed at "Southams, Windsor Street". I have searched the net and can't find any reference as to who they were or what they manufactured. All my grandma ever told me was that he was killed while doing a night shift. Can anyone help?

Hi Wighter, welcome back to the forum Wave In the 1937 directory it is north of the start of the original street (which didn't go north of the river when it was first numbered). It lists it as Bottling Stores. So it was on the west side of the street halfway up the north half of the street.

You can see part of them here on the right. It gives you an idea of what the original Street was like -

From the Newspaper archives from 1941 Charles Southam is trading from Bunty Garage Spon End, I presume after Windsor Street was bombed. The proprietor of the Charles Southam company was actually Mr Ernest George Ayres who for many years was treasurer of Coventry City football Club (but another newspaper says the Rugby Club) Mr & Mrs Ayres LSO established a charity in memory of their 2 sons for elderly men and women.
