It would certainly be good if some of them were on here, Dreamtime, as they might hopefully be able to help in putting names to the rest of the players for me??? lol.

If you type Hill Farm into the search box and press "go" it will lead you to many mentions of the school on the forum

I well remember D Di's ice cream when I went to school at Hill Farm in Foster Road, 1948 I think most days his van used to stop just inside Heathcote Street at the end of the school day - still remember the taste 70 years later. Mum used to tell me it was not good because of what was in it - I did not care as it tasted great.
There must have been lots of us kids who went to Hill Farm School but not many appear on this forum. Anyone remember Miss Bull? She regularly smacked my fingers with her ruler when she could not read my writing. Some of you must remember writing with chalk on your own slate? No school books in those early days but I still have some of my old reports In 1948. The headmaster was W H Goddard - anyone remember him? He was still there when I left to go to Barkers Butts in 1952.

Hi Diane - my dad went to Hill Farm though may have just moved on to King Henry's by then (he won a scholarship). Jack Yardley (though his real name was Laurie).
I know my mate's mum went there as well - Sylvia Jackson although that was her married name - not sure what her maiden name was. She emigrated to Australia.

Our house on Beake Avenue backed on to the huge playing field that belonged to Hill Farm school. All of my friends on the street went there but I had to haul myself up to Coundon to go to Christ the King. We all used to climb over our back fences in the evenings and weekends to play in the field and the caretaker would chase us off on a regular basis. We built dens in the hedges and played games, used our hula hoops and put on shows for our families there. The summer evenings were so long.

Hello,
Den! There's a blast from the past. Are you able to identify your growing up home from the map link? I do hope it brings happy memories.
Thank you so much lindatee2002.
I hardly knew any of this area until after 1968.

Lindatee, You say you lived on Beake Avenue, I have just this minute remembered the number of our house - 381 - A little way up passed the Unbrako Co. It seems like a lifetime away now. It means I do have a memory after all. Thank you ![]() |

The house number slips my mind just now but it was about halfway between Hill Fam school and the turn for Jubilee Crescent. I loved living there - so many kids to play with.

Yes Lindatee, Mostly all new at that end of Beake Ave, and the Craftsman was situated further on. We were situated right opposite the sports field but not sure what it is now.
More houses most likely and no longer a sports field. Chevral Ave. used to cut Beake Ave. in half. Come to think of it the Pilot was nearby.
Must have been a calling for more pubs.
