Corley Air Crash

Merry Christmas everyone! It's been a while, but I'm looking again to the Members of this forum to help me with a project I am working on - I hope you can help? In February 1945, a Wellington bomber aircraft crashed down onto the bungalows of Kingswood Avenue, Corley. I am researching that tragic event, which claimed the lives of three aircrew and five civilians, with the hope of remembering those individuals on what will be the 80th Anniversary of the crash. Do you, or a member of your family, have any memories/recollections of anything to do with this incident? Did a relative live in Kingswood Avenue at the time? Did they tell you anything about it? I do already have quite a few details, but it would be great to hear those personal accounts from those that lived through it, or accounts that have been passed on to family members. Perhaps, with families gathering for Christmas, there's an opportunity to discuss this? In addition, do you have any knowledge of RAF Bramcote, or 105 OTU (formed in April 1944) which operated from the base? Any information would be gratefully received.

Strangely enough I was discussing this with my father just before Christmas. He lived in one of the bungalows that was struck by the plane. I understand the bungalow was badly damaged and caught fire. I gather his aunt was something of a heroine and went back in the burning building to rescue him, and no one from his house was badly injured. The family in the next door house, which I imagine took the full force of the crash, sadly all died. I think my dad was only four at the time, so he has only has vague memories of it. He's still alive and well, so if you have any specific questions I can try and ask him.

Coventry Evening Telegraph, Richard. There is a newspaper archive site that is very useful for finding facts from newspapers.
