The pub as it still appears today.

Wonderful view of Cow Lane Chapel, associated with George Eliot in her 'Evangelical' period whilst at school in Warwick Row with the Miss Franklins, whose father was the minister there!

Does anyone know - Was No.3 the eastern end at the Little Park Street Junction?

No, it was at the south end, east side just up from the Hare and Squirrel.

Then I think, but I'm not 100% sure, that number 3 was the tall one in the background of this image.

Helen just to pass on - I sent a copy of that image and a link to Coventry Digital to the lady asking me about that. She could not have been more delighted and thanked everyone. Her father was born in the top floor of that property. James Ingram was recorded in the directories - her Grandfather. I've also sent her a link to Rob's site so hopefully another new member. Thumbs up

Ahhhh, that's nice. Smile I have now satisfied myself that the tall one is number 3, because although number 2 was the same narrow width as 3, it is shown having a jetty. So it's part of the second jettied building of the two, not all of it. Very confusing. When they knocked all the jettied buildings down to build the familiar Hare & Squirrel, the directory shows number 2 as missing. Oh, and number 3 is marked as 4 storeys. Why didn't I notice that sooner? Roll eyes

Couple of good shots of Fords here but even more interesting to see what was left on Cow Lane just behind - .....and on CD - was that the rear of the Sunday School on the right?

I used to visit the record library every Saturday in the early 1960's. I recall walking past Ford's Hospital and turning left into what I presume was Cow Lane. Can anyone tell me where the record library was? Thanks.

As mentioned earlier in the topic - In 1955 the block at number 39 Cow Lane, that included the chapel, the directory (curtesy of Heathite) says City of Coventry, Libraries and Museum Department. That sounds like it might have had a record section. - there are images at Coventry Digital if you search for Cow Lane. Thumbs up
