Butcher Row ('Great' and 'Little')

You can see Moores Oyster Bar further down in Neil's picture, look at the upper right of where the car is. Also from the other direction as Moores City Oyster Bar

Definitely not Palmers as seen in this photo, the light building is the shield building, although it doesn't have it in this period. But Palmers does help narrow down the surroundings. Seems to be Alfred Green, although was he there in the shield period (if it was him)? From the other direction, no shield and another one of Palmers various signs. Worth mentioning that Albert Palmer was actually Arthur Mason for at least most of the 1920s.

Unless Palmers double building is counted as one? I've always thought of it as two. This is a bit of a can of worms! There is the picture where the shield building is JW Gibbs, if anyone has a directory of whatever years that was? I was looking at the picture on mcsporrans link, I thought the writing on the shield looked like Franks Copper Shoppe, or Franks Cup of .........Titan. No definate idea though.

In David McGrory's Coventry Past and Present (W H Smith) he lists the shops and says it is "Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe"

Perhaps they moved. David McGrory is showing a picture similar to the one on here of the view with the shield and lists it as "The Olde Curiosity Shoppe"

Does anyone have an image looking at Butcher Row from Priory Row?

I've seen several like this, not sure if any from the very end. I haven't tried to work out whose buildings can be seen. Also, a slightly different angle:

The view looking left from the junction (the artist gets her directions wrong as this is looking south) And a Cox painting looking the other way - Looking north towards the Bull Ring.

Thanks Osmiroid (yet again!). I'd forgotten about that one. And Helen although it was more the view from Priory Row facing Butcher Row I was after.

Apart from "Shoppe" the writing on the shield and below it (maker upholsterer) seem to be different. Also, the picture is titled as Little Butcher Row which is definitely wrong. Although looking at mcsporran's link again, the shield part, with difficulty looks right.
