I appreciate that Norman Conquest said he was tiring of the topic but noticed that he said he had lived in Arbury Avenue. I was born in Arbury Avenue (in 1951) and have moved 100 yds into Astley Avenue. Thought you might be interested in this aerial photo from 1946 courtesy of Britain from above which shows Arbury Avenue at bottom of photo running left to right and the cul-de-sacs of Astley & Evelyn Avenues running off it. The arrow on Astley Avenue shows a light area which was the cleared bomb damage of 30 Astley Avenue. Mr Samuel Walter Tipson was not at home at the time but tragically his wife Ellen (39) and four children Joan (13) Pamela Eliza (6) Alan Roy (3) and Patricia Ann (9 months) all died on 14/11/1940 and are buried in the communal grave at London Road Cemetery.
Hi Derrick, Samuel is my great uncle and it's lovely to hear somebody who know of his story. Would love to hear more if you know anything.
Many thanks, Leanne x

I posted these photos on the "German Connections" thread a couple of years ago, but it's perhaps worth repeating them here at this time of year - it's the Cross of Nails in the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin

Hello. There is a documentary on the BBC News website, posted today, of vintage footage and survivor/eyewitness accounts. The URL is: http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-11741315. I hope this helps. |

Hi all
Coventry Blitz
Interesting to read, thanks Philip. It never ceases to amaze me as to how my parents and family survived all that. Although not in the city but at Tile Hill not far from the Standard. I was not old enough to remember those fearful days but strong recollections of the years to follow.

Anyone know if a Coventry bomb map, similar to the London bomb map, has ever been published

75 years ago as I write this, Coventry was being bombed. Will we never learn? |

Thanks, yes I'd seen that, I was thinking more of a detailed map like the London one, which shows where individual bombs had fallen. |

Dutchman, my father and I visited the Cathedral, as near as we could get, on the Sat morning early following the raid, we brought home lots of bits and pieces, including the nozzle of an incendiary bomb, father shaped them into a stick, never got around to make a cross, my young brother still has the piece, wonder if you can call it an artifact |

Or souvenir?
Never managed to find a bomb myself, not for lack of trying.
