Hello Elaine, I lived next door to your grandparents at 117 wow what a small world I remember them well but I forgot their names, correct me if I am wrong but did they have two sons? I seem to remember the eldest boy having a bubble car. I used to knock about with a girl next door to me at 119 her name was Vivienne. I am ten years older than you. I will always remember your grandparents every Christmas Day they used to call us round to their house for a Christmas drink. Are you a daughter of one of the two sons? Sorry for all the questions. Colin ps forgot to mention, we are the Waltons, I am Colin. My brother is Jim.

You must have lived very close to the Conlons then if they were there when you lived there
Sorry Morgana I don't remember the Conlons. It looks like another lady lived in the same road as us "Elaine"
I think we have a few memories to share between us, I hope. Colin.

Hi Radfordkid, Elaine must have been your neighbour by the numbers, small world isn't it, I thought you might not know the Conlons perhaps they moved in after as they did live in the first few houses up from the corner n/opposite the church. |

My ex's family lived in Treherne Road (the Park family, Marjorie, Russell (senior), Russell, Sandra, Maureen, and Jackie, and later Denise (I am unsure if she lived there as she might have been born after they moved away), small world.

Back on topic, I tried to buy 'The Lodge' prior to buying the house I'm in now, and had I found this site a couple of months ago I would have had all the pictures of the place at that point, my hard drive threw a wobbly and I lost thousands of pictures that I had taken with my Kodak DC210 (the box brownie of digital photography). I remember that the back fence had fallen into disrepair and the house had been broken into several times. My eldest lad was attending a day care centre just there and I was coming over from Allesley village to drop him off each day, then, I was not sure if it was a good or a bad thing to miss out on it (but on reflection, the house I have now was the better buy), but due to the very tall walls that surround the site I could not get a mortgage and needed to buy it outright (I had to buy the place I have now outright too, but that was because it had not been well lived in! lol).

I've read about Radford boulder - a massive stone dropped by a glacier at the end of the last ice age.
It was blown up by the Royal Engineers around the time of the First World War, now I know no one here will have living memory of the rock, but has any one heard any stories? Or got any pictures or drawings? It must have been a hell of a landmark, that I assume it would be a big deal or at least known about to any one living in the area well until it was blown up.
Can anyone help me identify where it was? Perhaps there are still bits left, or a crater perhaps.
Any info would be greatly appreciated and I'd be happy to go and investigate with my camera.
Thanks, Dan |

It says on here that the boulder covered a spring by where Poretta's coal yard is now. When it was blown up it was dumped in St Nicholas Churchyard. |

Anne, I wonder if during your time at EMEB you happened to know a Gillian Seabury, later Frost.
She worked there from about the mid-1950's and during the 60's. She used to live 4 doors from me in Marner Crescent. |

The name does not immediately come to mind, it is a long time ago, the memory isn't what it was! Do you know what department she was in? I was there from '63 to '72. If you lived in Marner Crescent did you go to Radford School? |

Hi Anne, Unfortunately I do not know which Dept: she worked in but you certainly worked there at the same time.
Radford School had not been rebuilt after the war, I had the trek to Hill Farm and enjoyed my time there. |

My brother would have started at Radford School in about 1949 so it would have been fairly new then. I started in 1951. We were lucky to have a nice new school. There was a girl in my class who would have lived up by you, her name was Pat Chubb. My mum used to work in the wine shop on the Radford Road in the 60's. the one up the steps just round the corner from Lydgate Hill. Sorry I can't remember your friend, I was a comptometer operator for a first few years at EMEB
