Thanks Scrutiny for putting me right. I well remember the Vicarage in its walled garden, as you say near Primrose Hill Park behind. It just looked like a similar house to me, but of course it is not the same. 9 bus went round it into Paynes Lane.

I think it was Eric Jones who was Padre at 8F Squadron ATC. I remember marching to St Peters on the first Sunday in the month. I remember Brother Stuart too. They were happy days!

Hi all I now live in a coastal village on the East Riding/North Yorkshire border after leaving Coventry 2 years ago after taking early retirement and every day I read the HFC to keep in touch, love the nostalgia of the forum and the memories people share, so thanks for my breakfast read to all. Hope I can shed a little light on the articles 37-39. I believe the building in photo 14, was located on the left corner of Paynes Lane and Lansdowne Road looking from the corner of Oxford Street. The large building in black and white photo is not the vicarage, the vicarage was located behind the large tree to its right and cannot be seen. The building in the photo is located on the top left side of Berry St, opposite to the apex end of the Eli's triangle and backs onto Primrose Hill Park. The house is still standing whereas the vicarage has long since been demolished, early 80's I think. Adjacent to the house was a footpath which ran from Berry St to Nicholls St, a gents public toilet was located next to the house, which also backed on the park. Along the left hand side of the path was the park border. St Peters Vicarage was situated on the right side of the pathway (walking from Berry St) with its boundaries along this path to the top part of Paynes Lane, where there was a wall which in turn ran back to the start of the path in Berry St, so the grounds of the vicarage formed a quarter circle shape roughly, where the vicarage stood was in the middle of the grounds and was a detached house, where every summer the fete was held and accessed by a double gate in Paynes Lane. I can remember the summer fetes being held in the grounds in the early sixties, they even had the local pop group The Sorrows playing there around 1962. The last time I went there was about 1967, when I played football for St Peters in the Choristers League and the vicar of the time wished us well for the forthcoming season. Paynes Lane runs from the Park Gates over Catherine St and Berry St to Gosford Green (I can still remember the Park Keepers Cottage which was demolished early 60's). In 1966 England won the World Cup and after passing my 11 plus I was duly despatched to Binley Park Comprehensive for schooling, thus 5 days a week were spent traipsing this route from my home in Burlington Road, back and forth to Gosford Green to catch the No11 bus and have the route engraved in my mind. I've found this map on an article by Derrick Arthur on the forum, I hope you don't mind my borrowing it. Photo poser - Factory workers, Post 25. Hi Prof, Great photo which would have been taken in Paynes Layne, the Vicarage would have been on the left and a terraced row of houses on the right. The white cottage is the Park Keepers Cottage. If you turned right and followed the fence it went to Berry Street, turn right and the jetty went to Nicholls Street.

Following some recent discussion on FB regarding the Godiva statue I have only just learned from the Coventry Society that William Bassett-Green was grandson of Eli Green who built the Vernon Street triangle. Post copied from topic Lady Godiva on 6th Jun 2020 9:31 am

I previously wrote a few days ago and lost it before I could complete it but it went off somewhere. The photos opened a can of worms as usual, one in particular of the Swanswell pub, taken from the mill side of White St. Not the pub so much as the weeping willow tree outside the exit which appears in so many of the old pics. Many a time I was lifted for a drink of water from the fountain under its shade. I suppose the fountains are all gone now! Which brings me to another request if you may be able to help me with. Aerial photos of the Hillfields area. There was one of the Singer factory, picking up Wellington St, which is short and stops at Yardley St. My interest being my gran's house, Back 13 Canterbury St. standing detached more or less in the centre of today's carpark, the old school playground was her boundary. If perhaps you know of a link of some sort I would appreciate it. My thanks again and regards to all at the Forum. lnyoni.

How upset he would be to know his grandfather's famed Triangle in Hillfields has been demolished in spite of its history!

Couldn't find a suitable topic within this forum to post this but the family lived in Lower Nelson Street. Can anyone help. My great aunt died in 1884 in Lower Nelson Street aged 3 weeks. The cause of death appears to be Stanaslitis Debility but I cannot find any links on Google or elsewhere. Any ideas?

Possibly Stomatitis Debility?

After a bit of Googling, I think it's "Stanatitis Debility" - Stanatitis appears to be some kind of virus, and each instance I've found refers to "Vesicular Stanatitis", where Vesicles are small, fluid-filled sacs that can appear on skin.

This reference seems appropriate - stomatitis. Page 72 refers to fatality.
