Should your "eye to eye" comment not refer to a teacher I remember called Flitcroft (cannot remember his first name)??
I think his first name was Eric?

The former Head Boy who just couldn't leave was Jack Naggington. He was in Spencer house (went on to be Ellis House).

I do not think that Sue Underwood was the first female teacher at Woodlands. There was one female teacher when I started in 62, she is mentioned in a previous thread, but cannot remember her name??

A Sue Underwood tale. One dark winter night I was helping collect jumble for the 21st scout group in Eastern Green, a few of us were going door to door in Hockley Lane and I found myself at the flats in Garrick Close. Imagine my surprise when one door was answered by Sue, after getting over my embarrassment I managed to explain why I was there. Sue recognised me as one of her maths pupils and invited me in while she looked something out, I was there about 10 minutes before she gave me a box of single records. I was quite the hero next Monday at school. PS, I never did hand the records in and still have some in the attic including 'Hey girl don't bother me' by The Tams, IIRC.

Just finished reading through all of the Woodlands posts, do not know if I have missed it, but cannot find any mention of B cubed, the dreaded games master. Also, who remembers playing football on the pitch with the permanent wave?

Known as the Municipal Field. Spent several evenings after school in the company of Lofty Lee litter picking off that field as a punishment for talking just as House assembly was about to start. I can still see him standing on the wooden platform at the front of the house with a scrap piece of paper and pencil, saying he was looking for volunteers for lawn cleaning after school Detention!!!!

Forgot all about detention. But now that you have mentioned it, I can remember being offered one wack of the stick instead of serving detention

I was in Stringer house at Woodlands. Also in Stringer was Bobby Arthur jnr, at that time he was a schoolboy boxing champion. I was in the first year as he was in his 4th. Being a cheeky chap, I gave him some lip one day over something and therefore got a battering. Unbeknown to me, this was seen by the Riley twins (Mick and Dave), they were 5th form prefects. Needless to say, they sorted out the bullying in their own way and then took me under their wing for the rest of their time at Woodlands. They lived in the railway house that was next to Canley crossing, and we remained friends for many years.

No, definitely Colin Dick. I recall Flitcroft by name, but never in one of his sets.

Hi SC, reading your old post on Woodlands and your mention of Tony Pratt. Did he live on Broad Lane in a bungalow opposite Masseys Club. The Tony that I knew, his dad Jack worked at Dunlop and his mum Muriel worked at Wickman, she had an artificial left arm.

I too had Rollason for RE during my time at Woodlands. Just wondered if anyone ever got anything but "satisfactory" on their school report. I think he had a rubber stamp made to save on the writing.

Mick, Reading your post prompted me to dig out my secondary school reports. I had a year at the Coventry Technical School before moving to Woodlands when it opened in September 1954. You are correct, during my 4 years at Woodlands, 12 terms, Mr. Rollason gave me a satisfactory for RE. Looking at my 3 terms at the Technical School, I received a 'Fairly Good' in my first term, followed by 'Satisfactory' for the two remaining terms. The first and third terms were taught by the same master and the second by a different master. I do not recall their names but none were Rollason. I think the second term may have been Mr. Long. Looking back at my reports brought some great memories. I was one of those, perhaps in the minority, who enjoyed my schooldays despite many corporal punishments from my Housemaster Mr. Burdett, Headmaster Fred West and Deputy Head Mr. Jones. I had much respect for both Mr. West and Mr. Burdett, not so much for Mr. Jones.

I left Woodlands in the 70's and started an apprenticeship. Imagine my surprise on the first release day at Cov Tech to find his son was in my class. No escape Oh my

Hello Mick Tony lived on Nod Rise opposite Shelfield Close when we hung around together. I didn't know anything about his parents.
