In the early 60s I worked with a guy named Barry Shiers at GEC, and he was a partner in a recording studio in Balsall Common (he took me there once); I imagine that Graham West was that partner. At a later date Barry left GEC and went full time; he had developed some product related to it, and apparently marketed it, but I don't know what became of it. I'm pretty sure, though, that the studio was the one in Meeting House Lane. |

Davies gun/sports shop was only about a couple of doors away from where I and a partner had a business in 1973, and the gun shop was certainly going strong then; guns were about half their business at that time. |

I believe the studio opened in 1966

I think it was a bit earlier, more like 64 or 5, certainly when they started up - but not necessarily there. It may have been in Barry Shiers' house. |

It is just possible it was late 1965, but couldn't have been earlier - not in Meeting House Lane anyway. |

I think that's what I said. I believe it started in Barry Shiers' house. He was certainly telling me about it around 64/65 time, and left about 66 or 7; so it was a fairly small window where he took me to see it, and showed me how master discs were cut and all that. He had some good kit there! |

This post seems to have been overlooked in the midst of reviving a 12-month old subject
Hope this link helps a little |

I mentioned this in another thread, but will repeat it here just to pull the info together....
When Greens computer shop closed in Market Way, the then manager; a Canadian named Dave Baker - purchased all of the computer stock from the administrators. He rented No 71 Far Gosford Street (currently home to an accounting firm) with the intention of trading under the name of "Central Computer Systems".
I visited him just prior to his planned "Grand Opening" to find what should have been the sales area still stacked, floor to ceiling, with boxes and boxes of computers and computer bits and pieces!
He still hadn't got round to sorting the stock he had purchased and it remained largely un-opened.
Sadly he was declared bankrupt on 14th September 1989 so his dream never came to fruition.

Just to add it was demolished in 1970 for no apparent reason as nothing was built in its place.
Strictly speaking it was located in All Saints Lane which ran behind Far Gosford Street and is now Sky Blue Way.

Hi, I think All Saints had a number of things against it. First, falling congregation numbers, also that the church was built at the rear of the plot of ground, hence, in the way of the new road. Also the vicarage was demolished to make way for the large roundabout on the Binley Rd. This stood just the other side of the railway arches which has now all gone. Did not really stand much chance in the face of progress. Nearly forgot, the parish rooms used to be in Vecqueray St. prob still are. If anybody had purchased a copy of "The Coventry Kids Tale", which is in the book reviews, there is also a little ditty about the vicar in it. As well as a bit about All Saints Church. |

Does anyone recall The Golden Cup in Far Gosford Street, run/owned by a family named Riley? They had a daughter, Ann, we were trainees in hotel management at the new Hotel Leofric, my tenure 1957-1960. |

Hi.
Was the cinema the Odeon, set back & became a carpet store or am I too far along? |

I think the Paris was near the junction with Vecqueray St, & the Odeon next to the Hertford Arms.
Cinemas are notorious for name changes, though!
