Hi to you both & Hi all Wave Whilst waiting for the white van, just time to tell you that a pub snack does not have to break the bank either. This little lot, half of Worthington's along with a bowl of chips, at my local cost less than a coffee in some cafes. Popped in home to deliver a parcel, before trooping out again. Have a good day all, or good-night for Dreamtime. Wave Cheers
Those fries look suspicious.. reconstituted maybe?

Hi Mike, Hi all Wave Reconstituted or not, they were very nice dipped in salad cream. Chips are more often than not, supplied to the catering trade as semi prepared. The cafes/pubs that serve freshly cooked chips, from peeled spuds are very thin on the ground & frightfully expensive, which makes them uncompetitive with a bog-standard fish & chip shop. Most fish & chip shops don't sell Worthington's or Timothy Taylor, so I was more than happy with my mid-day snack at the Wallace. Wave

Philip, I doubt those chips were reconstituted as they didn't look uniform enough. It is true that many places, even chip shops, buy them in ready for frying now. One local pub in Sutton prides itself on the fact that their chips started the day as a potato. You can tell the difference, I reckon. On another thread the other day we were discussing the ex-Wimpy bars owned by Derek Gorman in the 70s, which he rebranded as Mr Big. These places certainly did use reconstituted chips, made from a powder which was mixed with water and extruded through a machine in the kitchen, and every chip was identical. They were quite awful. This was also illegal as he was selling them as potato chips, which they weren't. Unfortunately for him, one of his staff was very friendly with an enforcement person. Wink

Hi all Wave Just a bit of info. There is a huge list of ranger tickets for the whole country. http://www.railrover.org/index.html Day Ranger costs Adult £24.80 Child (5-15 years) £12.40 Family (up to 2 adults and 4 children)* £49.60 Railcard (Two Together, 16-25, Senior or Disabled Persons) £16.35 Heart of England costs 3 Day Flexi Rover 7 Day Rover Adult £80 £104 Child £52.80 £68.65 Railcard* £52.80 £68.65 I have posted this in the Coventry section of our forum, because Coventry is so well & strategically placed for us to take full advantage, whereas most of the others we need to be staying elsewhere. The one exception are the East Midland rovers where Coventry is on the south eastern limit, where you can get to the east coast. What is obvious is the huge discount for having a railcard.

Rail fares have never made much sense, last month I travelled from Tile Hill to Manchester airport changing at New Street and Crewe for a mere £7.50, but the cheapest return fare was over £90. (I came back by bus).

Hi all Wave In a change to our advertised Wednesday bacon butty this morning, a church funeral service for our friend Frank Mee, meant that a visit to our local M&S at the Ricoh was our venue. My friend John was delighted. I am so grateful for the warmth of good friends & friendship.

Hi all Wave I knew all along that my bus-pass had a healthy side to it. One in seven adults go a whole month without taking a short walk of even 10 minutes

Hi Morgana, Hi all Wave Making good use of our out & about weather this week, as well as accompanying friends to Birmingham, Coventry is not so bad. I sat with a friend at the top of Hill St, in Birmingham last evening, whilst waiting for a Megabus to arrive from Glasgow. I would sooner have been in Bedworth or Coventry. Consolation was that at least the bus was on time, as were the trains between New St & Tile Hill. Whilst mentioning Tile Hill, all of the local & semi-fast trains stop at Tile Hill & with a huge free car-park (at present) as well as the Coventry Circle bus calling there, makes it a good connecting point. If you go on bus, tell the driver which platform that you want as there is a bus stop either side of the road bridge. It is platform 1 for Birmingham or platform 2 for Coventry. Wave

At a guess is this Baginton, is the stream off by the green, if so if you walk further down the stream by a field you can find Kingfishers also from the green there are old open air raid shelters there.
