Former Coventry Bees rider Kenni Larsen has been discharged from hospital as he continues his recovery from brain surgery.
The Danish star underwent an emergency operation in Odense on April 21 after suffering gunshot wounds in what his parents confirmed was an airgun accident.
While Larsen cannot recall the incident and the following days, he is set to undergo rehabilitation and has already asked doctors about a track return.
"He will slowly begin to attend different events and go to watch some races. He has asked the doctors when he can ride again, but they can't tell just yet."
But posting on his Facebook page, parents Vivi and Peter admitted it is too early to set a potential comeback date.
They wrote: "Kenni has been released from the hospital and is still waiting to begin rehabilitation. He was too well to enrol on the program in Hammel, so he will receive his training elsewhere.
"Kenni was hit in the frontal lobes, which is where the personality is controlled. He does not remember the accident nor can he recall the first couple of days he was awake after coming out of the coma. He is still exhausted and needs rest.
"He will slowly begin to attend different events and go to watch some races. He has asked the doctors when he can ride again, but they can't tell just yet."
The Larsen family paid tribute to the thousands of fans throughout the world who have sent the rider messages of support on social media.
They added: "Kenni is so grateful for all of your messages. He will not be able to respond personally to every single one, but has read them and continues to do so. His brain cannot take the pressure it would cause for him to reply to everyone at this time.
"As a family we are so happy with this outcome, and we are thankful for all of your great support. It cannot be said enough."

Bees entertain Kings Lynn tonight in their final meeting of a very disappointing season
Sadly, this will also serve as a farewell to Chris Harris who has had a transfer request accepted by the club
Thanks, "Bomber", for all the memories - you've been a fantastic servant in the Black & Gold
Good luck to you for the future |

Coventry Speedway are pleased to confirm positive talks have been held with regards to future motorsport at Brandon.
Bees owner Mick Horton met with Coventry Racing Club chief Avtar Sandhu this week to reach agreement on the way forward for both speedway and stock car racing at the stadium next year.
As previously reported, the sale of the stadium and the new lease arrangements will lead to certain operational changes, but there is a common desire to make matters work for all concerned - with the ultimate aim of securing a new stadium for both sports.
Horton said: "It's good news for everyone. Sandhu and I have spoken in detail over arrangements for 2017, and we've come to an agreement.
"We both agree that we need to work together, for both speedway and stock car fans, and our goal over the next three years is to work towards a new home. With the support of Rugby Borough Council, that's our objective.
"I want to hold some kind of Forum in the near future to outline my plans, but the good news is that both ourselves and Coventry Racing Club are happy to work together, and arrangements have been made that suit both parties.
"We can now look at this as a joint venture, a partnership, which will enable us all to go forward, and there's a real desire to make it work. It's no good for speedway and no good for stox for us to fall out. If that happens, there's no future.
"The lease will remain with Coventry Speedway, we have a working arrangement with Coventry Racing Club, and I'd like to add my personal thanks to them.
"It was also obvious from talking to Sandhu that he still has deep affection for the Bees, and he's desperate to see Coventry get back to the top.'
Speedway resumes at Brandon next Saturday (October 8) with the prestigious Elite League Riders' Championship, and the club are also working on dates for their remaining National League fixtures against Stoke and Rye House. |

Coventry Speedway have confirmed that team manager Gary Havelock has parted company with the club.
The 1992 World Champion spent the last four seasons in charge of the Buildbase Bees, reaching the Elite League play-offs on two occasions.
In 2014 they lost out in the Grand Final to Poole, whilst in 2015 they were defeated semi-finalists against the same opponents after finishing second in the regular league table.
Coventry promoter Mick Horton said: "Gary has other opportunities ahead, and we wish him all the best for the future." |

Former Coventry Bees rider Greg Hancock needs only three points from tomorrow's Australian Speedway GP to lift his fourth world crown, at the age of 46.
He has taken advantage of the absence through serious injury of previous leader Jason Doyle (Swindon) to have one hand already on the trophy, prior to the series finale at Melbourne's Etihad Stadium.
The meeting, which also features outgoing Bees skipper Chris Harris, is being broadcast live from 8.45 tomorrow morning on BT Sport 2 - any forum members tuning in will almost certainly get a glimpse of the Canberra Bulls banner proudly displayed by our own Johnnie Walker.

That is sad - he wasn't the greatest of riders, but no-one ever tried harder. I remember the days of "Tom's Triers vs Fred's Flyers", and how those guys scored the most unlikely of points when the Bees were short of A-grade riders. They were inspirational. Nice guy too. RIP indeed! True Blue Coventry Kid
