Hi all, The one time tram depot, is now the community centre. I might use a back scene to hide the mirror stand.

The new gas works taking shape. It's way over sized, but a difficult site as it houses the fiddle yard mirror. The prospective of where it is in the railway room. The extra lighting just for the picture, but once the gasometer is finished, it will make that end of the railway complete. (It's so oversized that it will store enough gas to last years!) PS. I now know that is a totally false notion!!! The angled & vertical ladders to work on, but just using stuff lying around I'm quite pleased.

My comment that the gasometer is far too large just doesn't stack up. It's certainly massive compared to the "accurate" kits costing up to £40. The diameter of mine is 152mm, which in real life equates to nearly 40Ft. The towers adjacent to the gas works in the centre of Coventry were huge. They were huge. The tall Foleshill gasometer could be seen from the Dassett Hills, forty miles away.

Well my Lords Ladies & members of the jury, Quote from Wikipedia. "A gas holder or gasholder, also known as a gasometer, is a large container in which natural gas or town gas (coal gas or formerly also water gas) is stored near atmospheric pressure at ambient temperatures. The volume of the container follows the quantity of stored gas, with pressure coming from the weight of a movable cap. Typical volumes for large gas holders are about 50,000 cubic metres (1,800,000 cu ft), with 60-metre-diameter (200 ft) structures." That info has now enthused me to continue with fine detailing of my perfect to scale gas holder. Which according to that info is on the small size of holders. I can't do anymore to my model in until I have both the plate & angle irons, along with the ladders a walkways. I rest my case melord.

I'm so used to picking up stuff that says authentic, whether it's Cornish pasties or gas holders kits. I'm in conversation with a gasometer enthusiast, who is helping me. I do like stuff to look right on our railway. I'm in effect dressing up the mirror stand, which I cannot live without, so it might be the only gas holder with a mirror on the top. Thank you for your picture Anne.

Very clever Lol Though did you not consider having curtains with small trees on, then you could pull it round the mirror and pretend that there was a mini mountain?

Foleshill gas works. All sizes & varying in design shape. For simplicity for me, I'm aiming for mine to be like the one in the centre of the picture. I believe that is what's called a feeder tank, which supplies the big ones. I've still got a lot of lattice steel work to add.

Just with poor daylight, no artificial lighting, The colour is simply water colour, so once the lattice steel work is in place, I can easily adjust the tank side colour. I know that the market model shop has the long packets of steel work & so on. I've really got the bug for this. Thank you all for firing me. Brill.

This is a ready to buy model. Looks really good until we see the bike rack is nearly as long as the diameter of the holder. I'm not going to tell you the price, as you might need an ambulance. Some kits are £30/40. That need assembly. My steel work packs will cost about £5. The steel work is all plastic, but some will come from the plant pot shop near me. Very fine seed netting is perfect for this.
