Built over the Red Lion in 1879, they think. |

Rather surprised by this one. We've not captured a complete image of the post-war Queens Hotel card sign, however I wasn't expecting it to look like this! It's almost 1980's! Thanks to Tom Caren on FB.

I'm still surprised how modern that sign was for the age! |

When I scroll down and see two playing cards against a blue sky I keep thinking it's virtual reality. |

I'm returning to this image because I was wrong about exactly where the photo was looking. It was (as the label hints) looking up the Red Lion Yard but looking south east towards Greyfriars and Warwick Lane not looking north west towards Hertford Street. This explains why there was only one lion. The inn stretched from Hertford Street to Warwick Lane. At the other end there was the 2 storey pub with a passageway into Warwick Lane. You can just about see it in the distance. Sorry for the confusion.

An interesting shot, more of Greyfriars Lane, but shows the side/rear of the Queens Hotel. I think that sorting office was not that old there, but didn't last long before the move to Bishop Street.

Some lovely detail here, so in XL glory, from Dean Nelson on FB again. Never seen this one before either. Love the Geisha and the ROVER logo.
Apols, looks like Heathite found this one some time ago earlier in this thread but worth a repost with the size and clarity.

Yes, a great pic that one, Neil. Am I correct in thinking the Church Bookshop used to be situated along that row of buildings? During the 50's maybe. Perhaps a little further down.
Wot, no clocks? I could always smell the coffee when walking down Hertford Street. I believe Helen has her favourite Coventry street and Hertford Street was mine. |

Nothing, or nowhere, ever stays the same, MR but I prefer to remember it as it was.
All for the sake of progress. I still have furniture here with me from Holbrooks. Good solid pieces of beech and elm and looking as good as new. |

Dreamtime, I agree with MR, this it not my idea of progress, the street as it is now is completely devoid of character and has nothing to commend it at all.
Did I hear somewhere that there is a development afoot? Question |
