Sorry Neil, I don't know offhand but it was built over the south side of Well Street and that photo isn't of Well Street as far as I know. It was built over multiple properties including the old well and the Old Waggon and Horses pub.

There was an article in May 1944 about the parade for "Salute the Soldiers" week which included the tanks, that picture was on the front page. Yes it is surprising that the picture was shown and obviously where it was.

Maybe because it was an American tank? It was published on 18th May 1944 in the CET 'American tanks gave a distinct touch of realism to Saturday's Salute the Soldier procession through Coventry's Streets.'

Just seems odd at a time when it was a criminal offence to photograph anything to do with the railways, let alone publish a railway photo in a newspaper.

May be part of a deception to fool the Germans that not all forces were being assembled on the south coast for an invasion.

I suppose that it was important not to publish anything that might be useful to the Germans but a one off procession would offer no aid and might act against the Germans by emphasising that the Americans were very much on our side.
