In the early 1960s Coventry Council planned to cut down the lime trees in Warwick Road and build a dual carriageway, compulsorily purchasing the front of garden on the left hand side looking out of Coventry. I have found a number of newspaper cuttings. 47,000 signatures signed a petition. Schoolchildren received a badge for signing the petition. Bill Aston was a leading campaigner, he had not long built his house in Warwick Road. Does anyone remember this?

Hi NeilsYard, I believe Bill Aston's house was opposite Henry VIII school. If I remember rightly there was a miniature windmill in the front garden. His widow still lived there for many years after his death and kept a rather vicious looking Alsatian dog.

Ahh yes I know the house now jonboy. The windmill was a bit bigger than 'miniature' IIRC! I don't think it's still there. I should notice - drive past there most days.

The house looks gorgeous. It would be great to live there within walking distance of the city and the station.

It does look a better job than I thought they were going to make of it, Linda, yes although there are 24 apartments and this 1 Bedroom is a mere £250k so they are going to make a tidy profit!
