The motor bike and sidecar reminded of me of the BSA M21 we had until about 1954/5. I would travel on mother's lap and my elder brother in the rear of the sidecar. The bike was missing a pillion seat and I recall an identical one to the photo being fitted for my bother when I was too old for mother's lap. Ah,the motorbike and sidecar. I always wanted a ride in one of those. Several dads in our street had them but my dad went to work on a pushbike. I love the one the police officer has on Murder in Paradise..

Hi Anne, If the reg of the bus is GKV, (my vision is useless this morning), then it was brand new that year.

PhiliPamInCoventry Holbrooks	171 of 196 Sat 12th Aug 2023 1:43pm If it's EKV, I think that it's a pre-war batch. Whatever, I would love to think that it was your dad driving, Anne. If it was EKV, they were possibly the first buses built with pre-selector gear arrangements anywhere. That was a Daimler development that we can all be proud of. That lead the way for automatic gear-boxes, being developed. There might have been some Alvis sharing on that. Daimler & Alvis & AEC, collaborated on this ground-breaking technology during the thirties.

Hi, I do wish you well after your treatment. 47 new buses arrived during 1948, FHP 1 to 30, plus 17 GKVs. The post war order was for 100 Double Deckers, the balance minus 5, arriving during 1949, all Daimler classed as CV A6s. The full order was five short, those being prototype development buses. This could be copied to the Coventry bus topic. That last pic confirms for me GKV. Any thoughts?

NeilsYard Coventry	180 of 196 Thu 12th Oct 2023 2:37pm IIRC they had to bring the Pru ruins down quickly as it was literally falling down so its only just post-war. I think rebuilding started pretty quickly. The moral-boosting Bible quote on Holy Trinity is still showing - Coventry Digital (Free registration)
