When SISU turned up the fans did support it - many gave up their shareholding and actual say in how the club was run for nothing to let them take over - and crowds were at a decent level. There are other more well-known clubs who would struggle to get those attendances with the record of 'success' we had (40 years without a top 6 finish, now 50)
I think most people knew they wanted to make money from the venture - they are after all a hedge fund and venture capitalists - but that would've been OK as long as the football club succeeded as part of that.
SISU spent a bit of money early on on some decent players like Dann, Aron, Fox etc. but ultimately getting that return quickly was of utmost importance to them. They underestimated the initial investment needed to get the team promoted quickly back to the Prem so they could get their hands on the huge Premier League TV cash. Had they spent double, even quadruple, their initial investment rather than drip fed it they would've still been on to make a substantial return.
But when that team didn't get promoted they did what capitalists do - looked for the quick buck - and sold all those players for a quick profit and left the team in limbo and it struggled.
By the time we got relegated again and thus needed two promotions for the windfall, along with the now ridiculous transfer fees and wages even in the Championship SISU basically gave up on the idea of getting a return from the club being successful and went down their tried-and-tested asset strip route. Don't spend money on anything if it can be avoided. Sell everything that can be. Bring in loans and freebies on cheap wages. Youngsters coming through are sold at the first sniff of interest. Training ground on the table to the highest bidder.
The only reason they haven't liquidated the club is because there is one potential pot of gold left in getting the stadium, and owning the football club gives them a vested interest to allow them to do so. In terms of justice they haven't got a leg to stand on but all it takes is one small procedural or administrative error on CCC/Higgs/Wasps part and they can win. Once that opportunity is gone whatever small amounts of value left (if any) will be disposed of and the club folded.
That is why so many fans, myself included, will no longer provide the club with money. The route to getting a return via a successful football club and a return to glory is now too difficult and long-winded for SISU to bother with. Any money provided will not go towards improving the club but used to fight legal battles for a stadium or to pay into SISU's pockets as interest on loans. If anything giving them money will just aid their quest and quicken up the eventual closure of the club. A return to glory days under these owners is not going to happen regardless and they need to be got rid of.
Like a cancer sometimes you have to acknowledge you will have to go through a lot of short term agony, with things like major surgery or treatments that will make you very sick, if you are to stand any chance of beating the serious problem and getting better in the long term. |

Disaffected fans elsewhere in the country have had some success in creating their own clubs
The most famous of these is FC United of Manchester who are now in the sixth tier of the football pyramid
In Liverpool there are AFC Liverpool and City of Liverpool FC similarly founded by fans unhappy with various aspects of the game and the way their local professional clubs operate
Perhaps there isn't a fan base large enough in Coventry for something along the lines of the clubs mentioned above to appear - but it might ultimately be the only route to follow |

If a deal cannot be struck between Sisu and Wasps after next season what happens to the seats which were bought by fans for at least £250 and the bricks which had their names engraved in them? I bought a brick in the George Hudson wall at a cost of £40, will Sisu give us a refund for the loss of our stadium? |

Congratulations to the Sky Blues on lifting the Checkatrade Trophy at Wembley today.
It may be just a small ray of sunshine in an otherwise miserable season, but it is some reward for the long-suffering supporters to cushion the blow of inevitable relegation to the bottom tier. Well done City! |

Here's "COVENTRY CITY FC" pictured on their victory parade, when they became Division 2 Champions back in 1967.
"CONGRATULATIONS" must definitely go to the current "CCFC" team, for what they brilliantly achieved at Wembley today! (If only they could have played good like that all this past season hey?) |

What an absolutely fantastic day! I didn't think there were that many people in Coventry let alone Sky Blues fans at Wembley.
From the second the Tube doors opened from the Jubilee Line virtually every person was wearing Sky Blue.
It was one massive party - young and old. My youngest is only ten and had never experienced 40,000+ fans all singing together.
A truly memorable event. I was there in 1987 with my dad and now the roles were reversed - and I'm sure my dad was in Sky Blue Heaven!

My two sons won £150 after they placed a bet on the result, unfortunately there wasn't a great deal of the winnings left when they returned from Wembley, having spent a few hours in London after the game. |

Don't pay much attention to things like that and quite often it's based on a single visit and experiences can vary game to game, even with the time of year. If the visit occurs while the team are on a bad run and they lose the game in question it will be a poor atmosphere. For a team on a winning run near the top it'll be a good one. Going on a sunny Saturday in August is going to be better than a cold wet Tue in January.
I'll bet when they visited Sunderland, Leicester etc it was towards the back end of last season when they were on good form rather than this when they've both been quite poor. |
