Now that the Hertford St bridge is open again for a view of Broadgate it is interesting to see what the view was in 1892 (this has appeared elsewhere)

As a boy, I stood in old Broadgate, watching the rain come down
The streets all glistened, as the rain came down
The little old lady, so meek and so mild, was once so sprightly, a beautiful child
She sauntered along, at her usual pace, she cared not about time, or the rain on her face
The trams so mighty to a kid like me, seem so unperturbed by this heavy downpour
While people scurrying, cowering for porch or door
A black cat sat serenely, getting dowsed by the rain, people making a fuss, how insane
Now I am old this scene once the norm, I still have my memories, and content with the time I was born

Another good one showing the remains of the burned out Prudential Insurance building 'still standing - found' by Anne a while back in this thread, that was barely completed before being destroyed.

That's a good one to reflect on Prof, thanks, and even a shoe shop too. Been in there a few times. |

Yes, Dream I did notice Manfield's shoes! I only ever went in the Leofric once, for a meal, expect it was for lunch. |

Leofric bar was behind Mansfields on the ground floor, it had cubicles, but nowhere the warmth of the old White Lion. I used it but just couldn't take to it. |

Manfield's was our meeting place late 60's, early 70's we all used to stand outside before heading off somewhere. Whenever I went into 'town' there was always someone there daytime/early evening! |

There was a tailor's shop called Foster Bros near the far end, my mum bought me a blue serge suit there in 1956 for 79/11 (just under four quid). Ivor

I have never known what the temp shops in Broadgate looked like before the blitz, until now.
