Wingrave photos from 1860s

Fantastic shots, Rob. Fountain outside St John's, never read about that before. Brilliant as ever.

I've got an original newspaper article about the building of that fountain, Kaga, which I transcribed here.

Dear all - we have found them, described as 'untouched for decades' by Damien. I'll begin high resolution scans in April. That's after I finish another 500 Arthur Cooper negatives which came to me last week via Ian Hollands, who saved them by collecting 10,000 in boxes from Cooper's front lawn. After his death, Arthur's wife Marjorie organised with the Council to remove them. Sadly they were in some sort of order and the earliest plates had already gone to the tip (pre-war, and I know, I know) Still, more Wingraves on the horizon.

Oooooo. I've never looked at those. Not that I have the kit. It will be interesting to see how many were in the Pictures of Coventry collection and if there are some new views, which looking at the boxes, seems likely.

Ben has just reminded me that following recent sessions with him, Steve and Rob - the Wingrave collection was added to CD and how amazing they are to. Just zoom in on that detail for the arch through to Market Place - the resolution for the era is incredible - they are over 160 years old!
