Red Lane School

Hi, my name's Abidabibi, I used to be at Stanton Bridge school from 1962 and in 1967 I was in class 1 (Year 6) our teacher was Mr Patrick and the head of school was Mr Richardson. Would love to hear from anyone from that time, please let me know if you were there.

Hello Abidabibi, I was at Red Lane School from January 1962 until we left Coventry in 1964, so I wasn't there for long, and I don't remember any names of staff or pupils unfortunately. We might have been in the same class. I remember it wasn't a happy time for me there. I have a school photograph of myself taken walking across the playground taken in 1963. Another memory I do have is wearing either green or blue tabards for PE to denote what team were in, and struggling to get it one and off. Strange what sticks in your memory!!

Hi, I am also looking for information and pictures on Red Lane School. All of my brothers and sisters went to this school, my sister always remembers the school being haunted. She told me about a stone staircase and the dark cloakrooms. She remembers a teacher called Mr Stoney and Mr Morley. In the 70s to 80s there was also a story I kept getting told by different people, it was the story of a young boy being hurt on a huge bell that hung in the playground. It was told by teachers who read the history from an old log book from old Red Lane School. I went to the new Stanton Bridge, that was in the early 90s and remember the head teacher having this bell outside her office. I would love to know if any of you know about this bell or have any memories of a story of the boy who was hurt on it. Thank you for your time and I look forward to reading your stories.

Hi all. I can remember the stone stairs, they were to the left of the entrance, I had a bit of a mishap one day I dropped a full crate of milk down them and you can imagine the mess that it made. I wasn't milk monitor anymore after that.

I started my Coventry schooling at Red Lane, Norm, exactly the same time as you. I lived in Newdigate Road for a year before moving to Cheylesmore to live. So we must have crossed paths. I have no memories of anybody who went there.

Arthur. If you knew me you wouldn't have forgot me, I was always in trouble with one thing and another, in fact my favourite saying was 'it wasn't me sir' and I spent a lot of time standing in the corner. The only names I remember are Stan Briggs and one of the teachers Mr Amos. The big thing in those days was marbles, everyone had them, and at playtime there were some serious games going on and I learned not to play anyone that had a big bagful because you were on a loser from the start. Happy days nevertheless.

Does anyone have any memories of Red Lane or any photos. There used to be an off licence that later turned into a house halfway down Red Lane.
