Hi Les..Sure we are interested. My brother worked for North Western and was on the job of demolishing the factory from start to finish, his name is John..You must have known Ray Goodhead the foreman at the time..I worked there for a few years in J block on the gears when the Mini first came out..so a few of us are waiting for you to put some more pics on, that you said you would a while back..By the way how did you manage to get the photos when nobody was about? have you any of the demo crew? So come on Les get scanning... Thumbs up

My late Husband played with a group called Sovereign in the seventies. He was the drummer. I used to go along to some of their gigs with my two children. We spent many a happy evening dancing and socialising at the Morris Club. Happy memories Les.Cheers

Hi Les, I for one thought the pics of the Morris during demolition were fabulous, and was really looking forward to seeing some more. Just wish I had thought of doing it in 1982 when it closed. I served my time there 1964 - 1968 and then in the toolroom until closure in 82. The only pic I had, was the one I posted on the forum of the toolroom football team. They were good times Cheers Bri

Hi Les, It is not that anyone is not interested, we did not work there. So it is of revelant interest to the people who did. I myself, like many others, find all topics and pictures of interest but cannot reply to them because we do not know anything about them.So please keep adding your pics or else they might be lost forever and that would be a crime to everyone. Thumbs up

My name is Ellis Lole I worked with Arthur Whittle for 9 years he was my setter in B block at Courthouse Green .We worked on the valve section on the presses. The formans name was Joe Teds I was with Arthur from1960 to1969. He was a great bloke to work with. It was nice to see your message about him .We had a few talks about his brother Frank .As I was only 18 at the time I found him to be a very interesting man .He was always there at the time to set the machines up and help you as we were on piecework at the time.Nice to chat about him . My name is Ellis Lole and I worked at Courthouse Green in B block on the valve section from1960 to 1969 and had the pleasure of working with your dad ,he was my setter on the presses . He was a smashing man to work with and as we were on piece work at the time you needed a good setter to work with you to earn your money .i only got £1 for stamping a 1000 Mini valves and on a good day you did about 4200 . I had a lot of chats with him he used to talk about Frank from time to time, I found him very interesting to talk to as I was only16 when I first met him. He didn't have to but he would help you if he had a spare half an hour ,or do some special valves and then give you the dockets to book in ,I was in 12 c gang on the upsetting machines and presses there were four of us in the gang and worked in pairs. I have some lovely memories of working with him he was a smashing man. Ellis

Hi Les, like all the others we are all interested in the photos and other posts ,wow sure is a lot of memories being stirred up. I'm really interested in the Valve shop as after finishing my apprenteship in 1968 (showing my age now!!) I spent time tool setting there and got made foreman there also. Even moved to Durbar ave (No 2 Works) and ran the Press shop where the valve forgings were done. Keep 'em coming! Cheers all |Bob Hewitt.
