The planning application says it will be an Ice Cream Parlour on the ground floor and part first floor. The Taxi company is to remain.
Here it is, up and running as "Creams" Thumbs up Creams Cafe website

On 18th Jul 2012 6:45pm, TonyS said: Gosh Philip, they bring back memories. They were outside the (now demolished) Cheylesmore Pub, where there were two of these sodium lamps in the front car park, and one round in the back garden area. The garden was divided (in the early fifties) into two with a laurel hedge down it's centre. The far side, which was lawn, had another of these lamps - which could still be seen from Cecily Road, but is now hidden by the overgrown hedge bordering the back of the pub. It was always very eery when they switched the lamps on at dusk as they took a while to "warm up" and once they achieved full brightness the light they gave off was quite intense and cast very dark shadows - quite scary to a young child.
Here's the site of The Cheylesmore PH now ( I wonder where those lamps went? Oh my )

Potters Green Lad, our dining table was a bagatelle table with a lid my dad made, could seat a dozen round it. One of my uncles was captain of the bagatelle side at the Elephant and Castle, Tusses Bridge, but that was in the early thirties. Our table along with our piano was left in the tunnel under New Inn Bridge, Foleshill, in the late fifties.

It's a pity it couldn't be saved. Many a good memory. I guess time moves on though. I spotted the other night the shutters are off the Coombe Abbey Inn in Chapelfields the other night but it wasn't open so I couldn't see if it was open again. Anyone know anything? It's been boarded up for a while.

It's been sold and plans submitted to turn it into a bar/restaurant and student doss-house by the looks of it: Full Planning Application Wally Hayden will be turning in his grave!

Thanks for the links. The planning was withdrawn though on 10th August. The mystery isn't quite solved yet. Last couple that had the Coombe were really nice. Made us feel really welcome. Really liked the split level garden as well.

As this is a pub thread, does anyone know of a list/register of current (or recent past) publicans/licensees?
